New Nook Touch to Have LED Flex Lighting for Night Reading?

Nook Touch

Last week an anonymous person left a comment on this blog saying that Barnes and Noble will be releasing a new Nook Touch soon and that it will use Flex Lighting.

Thinking on it, given the timing and the circumstances, I would say the chances of Barnes and Noble releasing a new Nook Touch with Flex Lighting in the next few weeks is very high. In fact, I’d be willing to bet on it (any takers :) ).

Watching Videos on a Nook Simple Touch – Seriously

Rooted Nook Touch

I just stumbled across something so odd that I couldn’t help but share it with you. For a long time I’ve been saying how cool a rooted Nook Touch is, and today the folks at XDA took it to a new level.

In the past I’ve shown the Nook Touch running live wallpapers and even playing some video games, but now it can even play video, and fairly smoothly to boot.

New Firmware Update for Nook Simple Touch – Version 1.1.2

Nook Touch 1.1

Barnes and Noble released some new firmware for the Nook Simple Touch today, version 1.1.2.

It is a minor update that fixes bugs and provides “minor system enhancements”, as Barnes and Noble describes it, so don’t expect any new features or major changes to the software.

Root a Nook Tablet Using a Memory Card – Super Easy

Rooted Nook Tablet

A little over two months ago, I posted the Nook Tablet Rooting Guide for a complete walkthrough on rooting the 16GB Nook Tablet and setting up drivers on a Windows computer.

Since then things have changed. The rooting process is simpler now, thanks to an SD card rooting method. You simply burn an image to a microSD card and have it do all the work, with no need to connect to a computer to setup drivers.

CM7 SD Cards Now Available for Nook Tablet, Here’s How to Make One

Nook Tablet CM7

Good news for Nook Tablet owners. You can now run CyanogenMod 7 for a custom, open version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread off a memory card on both an 8GB and 16GB Nook Tablet right out of the box, no rooting or hacking required.

CM7 improves the Nook Tablet’s functionality quite a lot. It offers more customization and even comes with full access to Google’s Android appstore. And since it runs entirely off the memory card, it doesn’t modify the Nook in any way so it doesn’t void the warranty. You just take out the memory card to run the Nook Tablet’s regular operating system like normal. It’s like having two tablets in one.

Nook Tablet with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Review and How To (Videos)

Nook Tablet CM9

There is now an Alpha release of CyanogenMod 9 available on the Nook Tablet for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The build is still in its early stages of development so it’s not recommended for public consumption at this point, but I went ahead and installed it anyway and am surprised by how well it works and how smooth it is already.

I decided to put together a video review showing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the Nook Tablet, and a second video showing how to install CM9 on your Nook Tablet and how to add Google apps.

Rooting Directions for 8GB Nook Tablet Plus Android Market (Video)

Nook Tablet

A couple weeks ago Barnes and Noble released an 8GB Nook Tablet for $199 to go along with the original 16GB Nook Tablet for $249.

It turns out that rooting an 8GB Nook Tablet doesn’t work with the same method as the original Nook Tablet—it’s a good way to brick it, though—because the process is setup for a 16GB Nook only. The good news is there’s now an easy method to root an 8GB Nook Tablet too, thanks to the developers at XDA, notably jichuan89.

New Nook Tablet Released for $199 with Half the Storage Space and RAM

Nook Tablet 8GB

Well, it looks like I was right. The Nook Tablet isn’t selling as well as the Kindle Fire and Barnes and Noble just proved it today by introducing a new Nook Tablet, one with half the memory and RAM as the original, which helped them bring the price down to $199, the same price as the Kindle Fire.

The new Nook Tablet is already available for immediate shipping from B&N.com. It is exactly the same as the original Nook Tablet, which is still $249, but it has 8GB of storage instead of 16GB and has 512MB of RAM instead of 1GB.

Nook Tablet CM7 Install Guide and Review (Video)

Nook Tablet CM7

CM7 is free open source aftermarket software for Android-powered devices that is based on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. It provides for a more customizable and open alternative to the stock interface of the Nook Tablet that is locked into Barnes and Noble and cutoff from its true Android roots.

The video review below will give you a look at CM7 on the Nook Tablet and what features it offers, and then the tutorial will guide you through the entire process of setting up CM7 on your Nook Tablet from beginning to end.

Nook Tablet Not Selling Very Well Compared to Kindle Fire

Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet

Barnes and Noble hasn’t released any actual sales figures for the Nook Tablet, and neither has Amazon for the Kindle Fire, but if you look closely at some of the signs it becomes clear that the Nook Tablet isn’t selling nearly as well as the Kindle Fire.

Since I don’t have access to any hard proof, I’ll show you the evidence that suggests Nook Tablet sales aren’t very good. Here are three things to consider…
