Well, it looks like I was right. The Nook Tablet isn’t selling as well as the Kindle Fire and Barnes and Noble just proved it today by introducing a new Nook Tablet, one with half the memory and RAM as the original, which helped them bring the price down to $199, the same price as the Kindle Fire.

The new Nook Tablet is already available for immediate shipping from B&N.com. It is exactly the same as the original Nook Tablet, which is still $249, but it has 8GB of storage instead of 16GB and has 512MB of RAM instead of 1GB.

The Barnes and Noble Nook Tablet is on sale today only via Barnes and Noble’s eBay store for $199 when you use code CNOOKDEAL during checkout (update: they changed it so you don’t have to enter the code, and it looks like the deal is continuing into Friday). That’s $50 off the regular price of $249. And it is new, not refurbished.

This is the best deal on the Nook Tablet to date; now is the time to pull the trigger if you want one. B&N offered $25 off earlier this month when purchased with a MasterCard, and there’s also the ongoing deal for getting $50 off with a year subscription to People Magazine, but today’s deal is clearly the best.

There’s some good Kindle news to report this morning. First, Amazon has finally started rolling out the Kindle Touch to countries outside the US. Second, Amazon has started selling refurbished Kindle Fires for $179.

Despite the lack of an official announcement, the product page for the WiFi Kindle Touch now has the option to select a country for shipping outside the US. However, the 3G Kindle Touch still doesn’t have an international shipping option, at least not yet.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a sales and deals post. Aside from a few deals here and there, since Christmas there really hasn’t been very many sales on ereaders and tablets.

Back in November Kobo announced that they would be sold to a Japanese company called Rakuten. Yesterday the acquisition was finalized: Kobo is now officially owned by Rakuten.

While this may sound like bad news for Kobo, it should actually end up helping them. Rakuten is a very successful e-commerce company and Kobo will continue to operate out of its Toronto headquarters with the same management team.

Barnes and Noble announced two new Nook promotions today that will be ongoing until March 9th, 2012.

Basically, B&N are experimenting with the idea of offering discounts on Nook devices with the purchase of Nook subscriptions. This idea isn’t new—remember the Philly Newspapers selling the Archos Arnova 10 G2 for $99 with a subscription—but this is the first time Barnes and Noble has tried a promotion like this.

I noticed this morning that Barnes and Noble is selling the Nook Color for $179 from their eBay store.

They usually sell refurbished units on eBay but this is a brand new Nook Color. The refurbished Nooks are selling for $149. Since it is new, you’d think they would offer the same sale price at B&N.com, but they don’t. It is still $199 from there.

One of the all-time greatest classic Christmas stories, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, is free today only at the Amazon appstore.

This is another interactive story app much like yesterday’s offering of a Charlie Brown Christmas. It is based on the 1964 TV special of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, complete with artwork and audio tracks from the claymation classic.

Amazon is giving away A Charlie Brown Christmas today in the Amazon Appstore as the free Android app of the day.

This is an interactive book narrated by Peter Robbins, the original voice of Charlie Brown, and includes digitally remastered illustrations, animation, music, and the original dialog and voices from the cartoon version of A Charlie Brown Christmas that has been running since 1965.
