Earlier in the week The Bookseller posted an article that mentions Barnes and Noble’s plans to launch the Nook internationally within the next four months.
The United Kingdom is mentioned specifically, which leads to speculation about B&N partnering with Waterstone’s, a major UK book chain looking to expand its ereader selection.

We’ve all been wondering when Barnes and Noble would finally update their original E Ink Nook—it’s been out nearly 18 months now; that’s pretty long by electronics standards—and now it looks like a new Nook, let’s dub it the Nook 2, will launch on May 24th.
This news comes via a federal filing that Barnes and Noble Inc. submitted on Wednesday that contained a single sentence of text to comply with fair disclosure rules, essentially stating that B&N intends to announce the launch of a new ereader device on May 24th.

There seems to be a loophole that a number of folks have stumbled across to get a brand new Nook Color for roughly half price or even less. This would apply to the regular E Ink Nook as well and other merchandise from Barnes and Noble, including NOOKbooks.
Groupon is running a promotion for $20 B&N coupons that cost $10 each. The Fine Print of the Groupon offer clearly states limit one Groupon per transaction, but apparently B&N’s policy allows you to apply as many Groupons as you want.

There’s an article at Engadget that has prompted a lot of “Nook 3G not selling well” and “Barnes and Noble dropping 3G Nook” articles.
According to the report, Engadget has “hard evidence” from within B&N that the Nook 3G is being discontinued, with sales to seemingly continue until stock is exhausted, and that B&N is telling retail partners not send out any bulk orders for the Nook 3G.

So you’ve gotten a new ereader for Christmas and now need to start adding some ebooks to its virtual shelves. Here’s a list to get you started on some free ebooks and ebook deals from Amazon, Borders, B&N, and Kobo.
Note that Kindle ebooks work on Kindle devices and software only. The same goes for B&N’s ebooks in regards to the Nook and Nook software. However, Nook devices are compatible with ebooks from Borders and Kobo since they use Adobe DRM. And ebooks from Borders and Kobo work with any device/software that supports Adobe EPUB and PDF.

Barnes and Noble introduced a new promotion today that spotlights a breakout series by a bestselling author each month where they offer the first title in the series for 99 cents.
This is a great idea by B&N because it allows you to try out new authors and books without having to shell out a lot of cash. And the 99 cent price-point is a big win that has worked out well for other types of digital media.
