There are three major wireless ebook readers vying for everyone’s attention as 2011 marches on, the Kindle 3, New Nook, and Kobo Touch.
It has been rather quiet on the dedicated ereader front for the past few months. There have been very few new ebook readers announced and even fewer released. Most everyone is focused on tablets and color ereaders this year.

For those of you that desperately want to read ePub ebooks on your Kindle, there is a way to install a version of FBReader—dubbed FBKindle—on the Kindle if you are willing to do some technical work.
FBReader is a popular e-reading program with plenty of options for customizing the layout for ebooks. It only works for DRM-free ebooks, however, but the Kindle’s regular functionality is still preserved so you can still get ebooks from Amazon too.

According to Amazon’s electronics bestseller list, the new ad-supported $114 Kindle is a big hit, ranking #1 overall, placing it above the Kindle WiFi at #2 and the Kindle 3G at #3. The Kindle DX is #11 on the list.
It is surprising that Amazon’s new ad-supported Kindle ranks at the top of the list for a number of reasons, the most obvious is the fact that it is only sold in the United States whereas the other Kindles are sold to 170+ countries worldwide.

Utilizing an interesting new marketing strategy for US customers, Amazon is now selling a new Kindle 3 WiFi with Special Offers for $114, $25 less than the regular WiFi model.
The only difference is the new Kindle displays sponsored screensavers and special offers, along with an advertisement at the bottom of the Kindle’s homescreen—not while reading or anywhere else.

I happened to notice this morning that QVC is now selling the Kindle 3. The bad news is the price is the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in a long time.
The 3G Kindle 3 sells from Amazon for $189 with free shipping. QVC is selling the Kindle 3 for $335.16 plus $10.47 for shipping. You’ve got to be kidding me, right?

Ask just about any Kindle owner if the Kindle supports EPUB or Adobe DRM and most will emphatically state, “No, the Kindle does not support EPUB. Never has, probably never will”.
But the truth of the matter is that’s not completely true. Technically the Kindle can display EPUB ebooks in their native format, even Adobe DRM EPUBs.
