Sony has had refurbished PRS-350′s available for a long time. The problem is that they’ve been selling them for $153—seriously, who’s going to pay more for a refurbished PRS-350 than a brand new PRS-T1.
Finally, Sony put a reasonable price on the PRS-350. It is now $84.99 from Sony.com. They still list the price as $152.99; you have to add it to the cart to get the discounted price.

With the announcement of two new touchscreen ebook readers this week, the New Nook and Kobo Touch, Borders is now selling the touchscreen-equipped Sony PRS-350
online for $109, a full $70 off the regular price.
The Sony Pocket has hit $119 a few different times, but it has never been priced this low. What’s strange is that Borders had stopped selling it and other Sony Readers several weeks ago; it appears as though they brought it back just for this deal.

Yesterday Sony added the Daily Edition and Pocket Edition ebook readers to their refurbished products section, the 6″ PRS-650 Touch Edition is missing, however, and once again is out of stock, as it always seems to be.
The Daily Edition is selling for $239 refurbished, $60 less than the regular price (don’t pay attention to the $329 listed on Sony’s website; it has never sold for that much).

Sony issued a firmware update this past week for the Sony PRS-650 and PRS-350 ebook readers.
To update, all you need to do is plug your ereader into your computer with the USB cable and then open Sony’s Reader Library software if it doesn’t automatically launch when you plug the device in.

If you’ve tried to get your hands on a new Sony PRS-650 recently you probably know that they are very hard to find these days.
Most retail stores don’t have them in stock, most online retailers that sell Sony Readers only sell the PRS-350 and sometimes the PRS-950, but the PRS-650 has been hard to come by for the past several months.

The 5″ Sony PRS-350 is on sale at Sony Style, Amazon, and other Sony retailers for $129, and is even down to $119 at Buy.com. If you have a trade-in voucher now would be a good time to use it.
Normally it’s a hard decision between the PRS-350 and the larger memory card-equipped PRS-650, but at $100 cheaper than the 650 the choice becomes a lot less difficult.

In an odd marketing twist that appears to be a big middle finger to those of us who bought a new Sony Touch or Sony Pocket when they were first released, there are suddenly a couple of really good deals on the Sony PRS-650 and PRS-350.
First, some of Sony’s retailers like B&H Photo and Borders are giving away a free cover that has a built-in light with the purchase of a PRS-350 Pocket Edition
or PRS-650 Touch Edition
. The cover costs about $50 if purchased separately. The Borders offer appears to be valid in-store only, and just a few stores have them in stock so call ahead. The offer ends 10/30/2010.
A separate deal, Sony Style isn’t offering a free cover with the purchase of a new ereader, but they are giving away $50 gift cards for ebooks from the Reader Store. This offer ends on October 31st and does not include pre-orders on the PRS-950 for some reason. Perhaps next month . . .
The last promotion is a chance to win a new Sony Reader or a $2,000 gift card. It’s unclear which Sony Reader is being given away because in true Sony fashion, there’s a typo on the contest description page. It says “win a PRS-350SC Reader Touch Edition”. The last time I checked the PRS-350 was in fact the “Pocket Edition”. From the subtle clues, it does appear that they meant to say Pocket Edition, since there is no silver 650 in the US.
Anyway, if you sign up to receive Sony emails then you get entered into a series of weekly drawings to win a Sony Reader, and a chance to win a $2,000 Sony Style gift card for signing up.

For the remainder of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sony is offering a Pink Ribbon Bundle Pocket Edition for $179.99, the same price as the regular non-bundle Pocket Reader.
The bundle package comes with a Pink PRS-350, a limited edition Pink Ribbon cover, and a coupon code for two ebook downloads from the Sony eBook Store.
The two ebook downloads are The Breast Cancer Survivor’s Fitness Plan by Carolyn M. Kaelin and Francesca Coltrera (McGraw-Hill) and Living Well Beyond Breast Cancer by Marisa Weiss and Ellen Weiss (Three Rivers Press).
If you plan on getting a Pink PRS-350, you might as well get the bundle package for the same price. Sony’s covers usually cost about $35 and the combined total for those two ebooks is $27.26, so overall that’s a pretty good deal.
