I thought it was funny last week when I came across a $1,500 ebook reader and thought was even funnier when I found it again today. You’d think they would have fixed what is obviously a typo by now, but they haven’t.
The Skytex Primer is listed for $1,513 plus $7.68 for shipping on Buy.com. Is it made out of gold and diamonds or what? And you’d think they could at least throw in free shipping at that price :).
The Skytex Primer is a basic color ereader from last year that typically sells for less than $100. Right now it can be had for $95 on Amazon. Usually it is more like $75.
The Skytex eReader has a 7″ screen with a resolution of 800 x 480, it has 2GB of memory, an SD card slot for cards up to 16GB, a 400mHz ARM9 processor, a built-in speaker, mic, 3.5mm headphone jack, and it supports audio and video in addition to ebooks. Not bad for $1,500, right?
This reminds me of the time I was shopping for speakers on Amazon and came across a pair for $53,999—except that wasn’t a typo. Seriously, they are Diamond Glass speakers that sell for 54k. I’ll take ten.
