Original Kobo eReader on Sale for $59; Kobo Touch Coming Early

June 8, 2011 by Nathan

Kobo eReader

If you are looking for a budget ebook reader, Borders is the place to get one. They now have the original Kobo eReader on sale for just $59!

The original Kobo eReader has a 6″ E Ink screen, supports Adobe PDF and EPUB, has 1GB of internal storage, an SD card slot, Bluetooth, 2 week battery life, and it comes pre-loaded with 100 free classic ebooks.

Sure it’s the older model from last year and doesn’t have WiFi, but at that price who cares. And if no WiFi is a deal-breaker, Borders also has the Kobo WiFi for $99.

As for the new Kobo Touch, remember last week when I posted about it not arriving in the US until the end of July? It turns out that Borders has gotten confirmation that they will now start shipping them in time for Father’s Day on June 19th.

In fact, they added a button that says it will deliver by Father’s Day with free shipping to the Kobo Touch product page. It still says it releases on July 30th on the buy page, but don’t let that fool you. Borders is bad about updating their website.

Ummm. $60 bucks. I saw the literati in Marshall’s this past weekend for the same price although it was to long for my taste. I have to think seriously about this since wi-fi and touch are not a big deal to me.

Just keep in mind that as a general rule of Thumb, the Kobo has gotten much better reviews than the Literati. There is a reason that even with its limited distribution network in the United States that the Kobo has basically pulled a head of Sony for 3rd place in the eBook Reader Market.
