After a long lull of Kindle sales to start the year, Amazon has put several different Kindle models and bundle packages on sale this past week.
Now they have the 16GB Kindle Paperwhite marked to $129.99, and that includes the black, the denim, and the agave green color options. The bundle packages are on sale as well.
The 8GB model is still out of stock so it’s not included in the sale, but the kids version of the 16GB Kindle Paperwhite is still on sale from last week too.
In some ways the Kindle Paperwhite Kids is a better deal for $5 more because it includes a cover and an upgraded 2-year warranty that covers accidental breakages, unlike the standard Kindle warranty, but the kids version doesn’t have the option to add 3 months of Kindle Unlimited to the purchase for free since it comes with a 1-year free subscription to Amazon Kids+ instead.
I’ve seen some people saying the kids model is also a better deal because it doesn’t have screensaver ads, but that is no longer true. The 8GB version was an ad-free model but they phased that one out and now both kids Kindles have ads when not using kids mode. You have to pay an extra $20 to remove the ads or you can usually get rid of the ads for free with this tip.
It’s good to see the regular Kindle Paperwhite go on sale again after being full price for so long, but this is another one of Amazon’s weird sales where they’re only taking $20 off. They used to discount Kindles by a lot more than that; the 8GB version used to regularly go under $100, but I guess those days are gone.
The Kindle Scribe and Kids Kindles are still on sale as well, but Amazon ended the Prime exclusive sale on the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition.
