A new ebook reader with a 6″ color E Ink screen called the Meebook M6C has turned up for sale on Amazon for $199 with free shipping.
The price is higher than the Kobo Libra Colour ($149) and the PocketBook Verse Color ($169), both of which also have 6″ color E Ink screens, but the Meebook M6C has a couple of advantages, like the fact that it has a micro-SD card slot and it runs Android 11 and is open to installing apps.
Like most color ereaders on the market these days, it uses a Kaleido 3 screen with 300ppi for black and white content and 150ppi for color content. It also has a frontlight with adjustable color temperature.
According to the spec sheet, it has an quad-core CPU with 32GB of storage space and 3GB of RAM. The memory card slot supports cards up to 1TB. It has WiFi and Bluetooth, of course, and a USB-C port. It also has a built-in speaker and supports text-to-speech to read ebooks aloud. The battery is listed as 2200mAh, and the device’s dimensions are 152.5 x 109.7 x 7.1mm. The weight is listed at 175 grams.
The built-in Zreader app supports the following formats: EPUB, TXT, DOC, MOBI, PDF, FB2, JPG, GIF, PPT, MP3, WAV, CBR, CBZ.
The description at Amazon is littered with typos and awkward translations; hopefully that isn’t a reflection of the onboard software. Meebook is a Chinese company that used to be sold under the Likebook brand. I reviewed a few Likebooks in the past but I haven’t tested any of these Meebooks.
I’m not sure there’s much of a market for 6″ ereaders with color E Ink, given the fact most color content is better suited for larger screens, but at least there are more options now. It’s hard to beat the Kobo Clara Colour for the price, but having Android opens up a lot more possibilities when it comes to color content.

I have the Meebook M6, black and white. It’s a great little device, better than a Kobo. It has an MP3 player that works great (unlike the Kobo, which seems to hide theirs– if there actually is one). I was surprised never to see the Meebook reviewed here as it is an excellent and very aesthetically pleasing ereader–except for stupid typos in their OS!

The Kobo Clara colour doesn’t allow for books to be loaded via Google or Dropbox. The Kobo Libra does apparently.
