Kobo Not Honoring Price Match Guarantee on Some Kindle Books

April 5, 2025 by Nathan 1 Comment

Kobo Price Match

Lately I’ve been seeing reports of people having problems with Kobo’s Price Match Guarantee when it comes to buying certain ebooks that are on sale at Amazon.

There are reports on MobileRead and reddit of price match claims getting denied by Kobo’s customer support for reasons that are unclear, while other people aren’t having any problems at all with Kobo’s price match system so it’s all rather confusing.

The bottom line is Kobo appears to be making up excuses about matching Amazon’s prices under certain circumstances, so it’s hard to know when an ebook qualifies for price matching or not.

Some are saying Kobo won’t price match an ebook that shows a red discounted percentage next to the price with a crossed out “Digital List Price”.

Apparently Kobo will price match regular sale prices on Kindle ebooks at Amazon, but not “discounted” prices. Good luck determining the difference.

People that use Kobo’s price match system frequently suggest taking a screenshot of the sale price just in case you run into any problems getting Kobo to price match the book, and they also suggest not downloading your Kobo purchase until the price match is approved so you can easily return the book for a refund if the price match request is denied.

It doesn’t sound like people are having problems getting Kobo to price match Google’s ebook prices or sale prices at other ebook stores, just certain ebooks that are discounted at Amazon.

Have you had an problems getting Kobo to price match Amazon’s ebook deals?

it’s not a price match: it’s a credit you can use to buy more Kobo ebooks in the future
