The Boox Leaf is Onyx’s latest 7-inch ereader that was released in December of 2021, and now it’s finally available to purchase from a US retailer.
For some odd reason Onyx refuses to sell their smaller models from their Amazon store so if you wanted to get one you had to order from China or through a questionable third-party retailer, but now they’re selling them from Best Buy too.
At $249, the Onyx Boox Leaf is priced pretty high for a 7-inch ereader, but Onyx has the highest prices in the industry so that’s not surprising—they don’t have a massive ebook store to make money off of like Amazon and Kobo so their devices cost a bit more.
The Leaf is basically a slightly smaller Nova Air without a Wacom touchscreen. It’s more reading focused for those that don’t want to write on the screen, but it runs Android and is open to installing apps like Onyx’s other models, and the software is mostly the same outside of the notetaking features.
Onyx’s newer models support magnetic accessories and the Leaf is no exception. There’s a magnetic case for it that has page buttons built-in, but unfortunately they don’t appear to be selling it on Best Buy yet.
