PocketBook announced the InkPad 4 back in late March and I was starting to wonder what happened to it, but now it has finally turned up for sale from PocketBook’s official Amazon store (it looks like they closed their Newegg store so at least there’s still one option in the US).
The PocketBook InkPad 4 is available to purchase for $289 with free shipping. The ship date is still a ways off but it’ll most likely ship sooner than it says.
They also have a Flip Cover for the InkPad 4 available for $25 with free shipping. It’s nice to see PocketBook’s covers are more reasonably priced than what Amazon and Kobo charge for their ereader covers.
In case you missed the announcement, the InkPad 4 has a 7.8-inch E Ink screen with 300 ppi like the InkPad 3, but it uses a newer Carta 1200 screen with better contrast, and it still has a frontlight with temperature control. It also has a flush front design now instead of an indented screen.
There’s 32GB of onboard storage, 1GB of RAM, it has a dual-core 1GHz processor, a USB-C port, a rotation sensor, WiFi, it’s waterproof (IPX8-rated), and it has a 2000 mAh battery.
It also supports Bluetooth and it has an external speaker for listening to audiobooks and using text-to-speech.
One of the unique things about PocketBooks is they still have physical page buttons, unlike most flush-screen ereaders. They’re hard to see in pictures, but they’re located along the bottom edge on the front of the device.
I plan on reviewing the InkPad 4 so check back in a few weeks if you’re interested in seeing it in action (sorry, I decided not to review it at this time). PocketBook is also releasing a color version soon called the InkPad Color 2. The design is pretty much identical but it has an upgraded Kaleido Plus E Ink screen.
