Another ebook store is biting the dust, and it’s happening on March 15th so you have less than 2 weeks to download any ebook purchases before they’re gone for good.
After 16 years online, Feedbooks has announced that they will be closing their ebook store on March 15th, 2024.
They say Feedbooks is going to get replaced by “Cantook”, a new online library, in April, but it will only be available in a few countries: France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
After Feedbooks closes down in a couple of weeks, customers will no longer have access to their Feedbooks accounts, so they’ll no longer be able to download any ebooks obtained through Feedbooks.
Even if you get this notice before the deadline, they say you still might not be able to download all of your ebooks: “Please note that for various technical reasons that are unfortunately out of our control, some books that were previously available to buy and download might not be anymore.”
This is another good example of why you should always download and make backups of all ebooks that you purchase regardless of the source. Any ebook store can go out of business at any time, especially when it comes to smaller ebook stores. Feedbooks started out as mostly a public domain ebook store, but they sold ebooks as well.
Feedbooks used to be my go-to website for downloading public domain books. They always had nice covers and good formatting, and they didn’t add a bunch of annoying terms of use garbage to the ebooks like Project Gutenberg. It’s a shame to see them go, but it can’t be easy trying to make a profit selling ebooks up against giants like Amazon.
To obtain your purchased ebooks before the closing date, just login to your Feedbooks account and download them from your Feedbooks Bookshelf.
