As expected, Onyx has announced the release of a new Kindle Oasis clone with a 7-inch color E Ink screen, but the name is rather unexpected. The new device is called the Boox Go Color 7, and it’s part of Onyx’s new Go Series, but it looks a lot like the Boox Page model from last year.
The Go Color 7 is available in both white and black colors, and it has the same 7-inch Kaleido 3 screen as all the other similar color models that have been coming out this year, like the Kobo Libra Colour and the PocketBook Era Color.
The new Boox Go Color 7 has some advantages over those devices, though, like the fact that it runs Android 12 and has Google Play built-in to install apps. The Go Color also has a ridiculous amount of storage space (64GB) and more RAM (4GB), and it has a microSD card slot, along with a built-in speaker and a microphone.
It has a recessed screen like the Libra Colour, but unlike the Kobo, it doesn’t support stylus input.
One interesting detail, Onyx is advertising it as “water-repellent”, but the fine print says that it is not waterproof, and that the water-repellent effect may decrease over time. Onyx is one company that just isn’t into the waterproofing thing; this is as close as they’ve gotten.
Introducing BOOX Go Color 7
BOOX Go Color 7 Unboxing
The Boox Go Color 7 is priced at $249 and it’s available to order now from Onyx’s Boox Shop. It’ll be interesting to see if Onyx sells it from their Amazon store as well. They don’t usually sell their smaller ereaders on Amazon, but they are selling the Palma there now. If not, it might show up at Onyx’s other retailers like B&H and Best Buy at some point. Update: The black one is available to order on Amazon now, but shipping is still a few weeks away.

I messaged a bit with an Onyx rep on reddit after the announcement for additional details on the Boox Go Color 7:
For clarification, the black model has a flush screen while the white is recessed. It was also mentioned that only the black model is available to order for now – the white one will be available at a later date.
Nathan says
Thanks for the clarification. I don’t know why Onyx just doesn’t say that somewhere, and it would be helpful if they had some decent product pictures so you could see stuff like that.
Shawn says
Will a stylus work with it? Meaning does it at least have the capability? An app for writing?
Nathan says
They usually remove the notebook app on their smaller models, and there’s no stylus support, other than those crappy capacitive styluses.
Shawn says
Thanks. So Kobo Libre colour for writing maybe? but gosh I want Google play.
Did you/ are you getting review units to post on YT? Love to see your take!
Nathan says
I don’t accept reviews units because I think the whole practice is shady, but I will be buying one to review. I just noticed the black one is available to order on Amazon now, but shipping is still a few weeks out so it might be awhile before I can get one.

I’ve been wobbling on ordering the Pocketbook Era (in all the pictures I’ve seen, its screen appealed to me more than the Libra Colour’s screen), but now that this is out, I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon. With this I can keep using my beloved Moon+ Reader, plus with shipping being over a month away I’ve got plenty of time to change my mind and cancel it lol

I wish I didn’t buy Boox Page last year. This seems like a perfect reader. Everything I missed on Page was water resistence, white color and indented screen. Go Color has all this plus color screen. This seems like the best reader out there right now. I’ll probably buy it once the white version is available :))
