If you missed out on the latest round of Kindle sales this past week, there are still some good deals to be had on like new and refurbished Kindle ereaders at Woot and Amazon.
The best current deal is the 12th gen Kindle Paperwhite for $99 at Woot. That’s actually a better deal than the latest sale where the same Paperwhite was selling for $124.99 from Amazon. However, the ones at Woot might have minor screen blemishes. This what the note on the product page says:
“These Kindles are brand new, but may have a slight blemish on the screen. They are backed by a 90-day Woot warranty.”
There are a few reports under the “discuss this deal” forum link on that page from people that bought these Kindles and they received brand new unopened boxes with Kindles that had no visible screen blemishes at all.
Maybe Woot is just trying to cover their ass in case these Kindles do have screen blemishes. I wonder if they’re referring to the frontlight issue where the bottom of the screen has a slightly yellower tone. It seems to be a fairly common problem with 12th gen Paperwhites. I have one Paperwhite with a perfectly uniform frontlight and one with subtle yellowing at the bottom.
Woot also has the previous gen Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition available for $109.99. These are listed as Amazon refurbished, and they have all three color choices: black, blue, and agave green.
Amazon has the regular 16GB and 8GB 11th gen Kindle Paperhwites on sale too. These are refurbished units as well. The 16GB version is selling for $96.99 and the 8GB model is $86.99.
The SE adds wireless charging, an auto-brightness sensor, it has more storage space, and it’s ad-free by default (even though Woot erroneously says it has lockscreen ads). Personally, I like the screen on the 12th gen better because it has slightly better contrast, but some people like the whiter tone of the frontlight on the 11th gen version. Woot has the 11th gen basic Kindle on sale for $69.99. It’s the previous model from 2022, but it’s the same generation as the current model. There are a few minor differences outlined here in this 2024 Kindle vs 2022 Kindle comparison review.
Lastly, Woot is selling the Kindle Scribe 1 for $249.99 for the 16GB model. The 32GB version is $279.99. Those are not good deals; I don’t know what Woot is smoking. Amazon has these exact same Kindle Scribe models on sale right now for $216.99 and $227.99 respectively, and the 64GB version is $244.99. Considering the new Kindle Scribe sells for more than double that, those are really good prices for a large-screen, notetaking Kindle, even if they are refurbished instead of brand new.
