Amazon Selling Kindle Oasis as New Again, But it Won’t Last Long

February 20, 2026 by Nathan Groezinger Leave a Comment

Kindle Oasis Is Back

Here’s something that’s kind of odd. For some reason Amazon is selling the Kindle Oasis again in the US, and it’s listed as being in new condition, not used or refurbished, and they seem to have quite a few in stock (the quantity selection box goes up to 31+).

Only the 8GB version is available as new, but they have both the ad-free and ad-supported versions available. They’re charging the full list price of $249.99 for the ad-supported variant and $269.99 for the ad-free model.

Amazon discontinued the Kindle Oasis in late 2023, and they never released a new version, so it’s surprising to see it resurfacing again in 2026. They must’ve found a box of them stashed away in the corner of a warehouse somewhere.

Amazon stopped updating the Kindle Oasis last year so it looks like it won’t be getting the changes to the user interface that Amazon is slowly rolling out to newer Kindles. That’s a big plus from some people’s perspectives.

Amazon says Kindles are supposed to get security updates for at least 4 years after they stop selling a Kindle model as new, but they still haven’t closed the jailbreaking holes on the Oasis so they clearly aren’t honoring their own policy. And do you think they’ll reset the 4-year clock now that they’re selling the Oasis in new condition again? Nope. The website currently says the 10th gen Kindle Oasis will get security updates through 2028.

Security has never been a big concern on Kindles anyway, but the fact the software hasn’t been updated since April of 2025 with the release of the 5.18.2 update should be taken into consideration. That means it won’t be getting any of the new features that Amazon has added, like the Assistive Reader or Ask This Book feature, but it does support the new Recaps feature since that was added in the 5.18.1 update.

Amazon is still selling the International Version of the Kindle Oasis as well, but I don’t think they ever stopped selling it. It was half price for a long time, but now it’s back to the full price of $349.99. It’s the version with 4G LTE so it’s a lot more expensive than it should be. They will not ship these to US addresses, and will only ship them to certain countries.
