Kobo has released a new software update, but so far it’s only available for the most recent models, which includes the Kobo Libra Colour, the Kobo Clara Colour, and the Kobo Clara BW.
The new software version is 4.45.23640 for all three models. It appears to be a minor bug-fix update, as the release notes don’t say much of anything, just “various bug fixes” and “stability improvements” (what, do they think they’re Amazon now?)
There’s a thread at MobileRead about the update, but so far there isn’t really much info there about what changed either. A beta tester posted a list of changes with the 4.45 update, and it mostly seems to be an update to ensure updates install properly, particularly for the revised models that have slightly different internal components. There’s also a note about translations being fixed.
Unfortunatley the update doesn’t appear to address some of the reports of bugs when using the new Kobo Remote with the Kobo Libra 2 since it isn’t even included in this round of updates, but hopefully they’ll release a fix eventually.
Like always, you can wait for the prompt to install the software update on your Kobo while syncing, but it might take a while for it to show up, as Kobo tends to roll out updates slowly.
If you want to install the update now you can download it from this Kobo Firmware Updates page, but make sure to get the right update for the right model, and make sure to read the disclaimer about the different revisions at the top of the page.
That website isn’t associated with Kobo, but the download links are directly from Kobo. Kobo added an official updates page to their website last year, but they never update the links so it’s pretty much pointless. All the links are from two updates ago. But it does include directions on how to manually install an update if you’re unsure of the process.
