Onyx has released two new versions of the Boox Go 10.3, one with a frontlight (the Lumi version) and one without a frontlight. Both have been updated to Android 15 from Android 12, but otherwise most of the features remain the same as the first gen model, aside from one key downgrade.
The new Go 10.3 Lumi is already available to order from Boox’s Amazon store for $449. The version without a frontlight is going to sell for $399, and Onyx’s website says it will ship “around April”. Keep an eye on Onyx’s Amazon store to see when it gets listed.
This appears to be a pretty standard generational upgrade from Onyx, expect it took them nearly 2 years instead of the usual 1. They changed a couple of details, while updating the Android version, and now they can market it as a brand new device again to boost sales.
However, there is one key downgrade that is going to put some people off. These new Gen 2 models use an InkSense Plus stylus instead of a Wacom stylus. Wacom’s EMR touchscreens are widely considered the best option for eNotes, but it’s become a trend for companies to use cheaper alternatives lately.
Aside from that and the newer Android version and the option to get one with a frontlight, these Gen 2 models are virtually identical to the first gen Boox Go 10.3. Comparing the non-frontlit models, the dimensions are identical (the Lumi version is mostly the same too except it’s 2mm thicker with the frontlight). The new model is slightly lighter at 360 grams (364 for the Lumi), down from 375 grams.
All the key specs remain the same, although they’re using a newer CPU. As the name implies, the Go 10.3 has a 10.3″ E Ink screen. They don’t specify the generation anywhere, but the new models are probably using the same 300ppi Carta 1200 screen as the original.
I reviewed the original Go 10.3 after it came out in 2024 and the most notable thing I remember is the screen looked absolutely fantastic without the added frontlight layer, one of the best I’ve seen. It was super clear, with nice dark black ink, and the ink seemed closer to the surface than usual.
The Go 10.3 is a nice device, but it’s more on the budget end of the Onyx’s eNotes. 4GB of RAM is definitely on the low side for any Android device, and the Go models don’t support BSR for faster and smoother refreshing, so the overall performance isn’t as good as some of their other models like the Note Air5 C.
These are likely the first of several new models from Onyx in 2026; a number of their other models are due for minor generational upgrades as well, including the BW Palma, the Note Air, and Boox Go 6.
