Now that Amazon has raised the prices of Kindles by $40-$50 each, people are waiting for them to go on sale again.
Unfortunately there isn’t much going on in the Kindle sales department lately, but Amazon does have a few “like-new” Kindles on sale.
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is on sale for $243.99. That’s $76 less than the price of a new one after the recent price increase. It used to sell for $279.99 new. The non-SE 16GB version now sells for $289.99 new (it used to sell for $249.99).
Amazon also has the previous gen Kindle Scribe on sale starting at $284.99 for the 16GB model, but the 32GB version is the better deal at $299. The 64GB version is also on sale at $319.99. It’s still a good time to get an older Kindle Scribe if you don’t want to spend a fortune on a newer model, especially with the new Vera jailbreak making it easy to get KOReader running on the previous gen Kindle Scribes.
Keep in mind, you can also get an additional 20% off these prices with a trade-in. The like-new Kindles have that as an option as well.
If those sales aren’t doing it for you, Amazon usually has a big sale in October. Last year the Kindle Colorsoft was $50-$80 off, the Paperwhite was $35-$50 off, and the Kindle Scribe was over $100 off. It’ll be interesting to see how the sale prices compare to last year with the prices going up.
Woot is another option to get Kindles for cheap, but they don’t currently have any available. Actually they do list the 1st gen Kindle Scribe for $199, but it’s sold out. You can add the 32GB version to the cart at $219.99, but it says sold out in parentheses so who knows what’s going on with that. They’ve been having them in stock off and on lately so it’s worth keeping an eye on if you want to get one for cheap.
