If you saw my Kindle 4 video review and first impressions, you know that not all Kindle apps work on a Kindle 4. The fact that it lacks a physical keyboard and has less RAM than the Kindle 3 leaves a good share of the Active Content out.
Purchased apps for earlier Kindles—Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 2, and Kindle DX—show up in the archived items list on the $79 Kindle 4, but when you try to download a lot of them it gives the error, “The item is not available for this device type”.
With the Kindle Touch release coming next month, this issue going to get worse before it gets better. The touchscreen is likely to cause a lot of app incompatibilities too.
Amazon is going to have start branching out the Games and Active Content section for each specific device, and it looks like they’ve already gotten started.
