Today Barnes and Noble pulled the veil off their latest gadget, the Nook Tablet, what is essentially an updated version of the Nook Color.
The Nook Tablet is up for pre-order right now from B&N.com for $249. It releases on November 18th.
For the most part, the leaked info about the Nook Tablet was correct. One pleasant exception is the battery life. B&N claims the Nook Tablet can get 9 hours of video playback and up to 11.5 hours of reading. Nice. They also claim the display has the lowest reflection and glare of any tablet.

Barnes and Noble repeatedly made claims that the Nook Tablet is better than the Kindle Fire at the press event. Personally, given all the preliminary details of both, I have to agree that the Nook Tablet is a better tablet than the Kindle Fire. On paper, that is. I’ll have to wait until I get them both in-hand to know for sure. Check back for the full reviews and comparisons in about two weeks.

joe says
do you think they will still make roms for the nook color or not?
Nathan says
The focus will switch to the Nook Tablet but the Nook Color will still be getting new ROMs, I imagine. It’s been too successful not too. I wonder if it can run Android 4.0. If it can, I can assure you someone will figure out a ROM for that.
Stephen says
Any word if they are going to push an update for the Nook Color that will include some of the above capabilities (other than hardware obviously)?
elpatron says
I might of missed this….What OS is in the “Tablet”? If its And 2.3 it will need some work. If its 3.X it will be a keeper!
Nathan says
The Nook Tablet runs Android 2.3. I’m hoping a ROM comes along for Android 4.0 at some point.
elpatron says
Thanks Nathan. If an external chip w/a 4.0 ROM can be booted into this tablet, again this will really be a keeper. $250 is kinda expensive but hey…its a “Reader” w/alot of goodies. Xmas will be fun this year. Archos 80 G9 w/8″ screen w/roid 3.2 @ $270 is worth a look.
Stephen says
Word online (official B&N and other sources) is that a Nook Color update is on the way at the end of the year or early next year(ver 1.4) that will add Netflix, Hulu, Nook Comics and other apps, etc. to the Nook Color.
Nathan says
That is indeed the word but I can’t believe it’s going to take so long. They’d rather people get the Nook Tablet so they’re probably going to drag their feet on updating the Nook Color.
