Kindle Unlimited Now Allows 20 Titles Borrowed at Once

September 2, 2021 by Nathan 10 Comments

Kindle Unlimited

There are a number of reports on reddit from Kindle Unlimited users saying Amazon has upped the limit of books that you can have downloaded at one time to 20.

According to early reports, it appears this change is currently a US-only thing so far but hopefully a wider rollout is coming soon.

In the help section on Amazon’s website it still says you can only have 10 titles downloaded at one time, but there are a bunch of people on reddit saying they can now borrow 20 titles at a time, and there’s also the screenshot above from the Kindle app saying as much.

I no longer have an active Kindle Unlimited subscription so I cannot confirm but it appears to be legit.

It would be nice if Amazon actually documented these type of changes somewhere instead of leaving us to discover them by chance, but maybe they just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Either way, being able to borrow 20 books at once for Kindle Unlimited users instead of only 10 is a nice bonus, especially for heavy readers. I wonder if they’re going to increase the limit for Prime Reading books as well?

You can see how many books you have actively borrowed from KU on the Manage Your Titles page at Amazon.

I mentioned it here last week. It was a surprise when I tried to add one, not sure if I had 9 or 10 out, and when I checked, I had 11. My “free trial” of 3 months (one of many free trials I’ve had) ends on 9/4. As I finish a book, I add another to keep 20,,and will then keep wifi off till I finish reading them. If I finale another free trial, I’ll turn on the wifi. Good thing about KU is the list of what you’ve previously borrowed remains, so it’s easy to borrow again.

Yep I can confirm it too. I noticed it maybe a month ago, give or take. I love it and was so surprised when I discovered I could just add and add until I hit 20 books. Would be nice if they’d officially said something though, I agree.

I can definably confirm the 20 book limit is active ion my family’s account. My mother in law uses it too and she called and asked if 16 books borrowed would charge us more. I looked and sure enough 16 books borrowed. This was a nice surprise!

I didn’t realize the number was 20 now. I do know that I was surprised when I went to add one, knowing I was at 10, and it didn’t ask me which one to return, so I did a couple more. So weird when Amazon doesn’t tell us these things.

I can confirm. I am a long-time customer in the US. Can now borrow and download 20 books. Seems to have started in September.

Amazon has updated their help section to show the change to the 20 book download limit.
