It looks like we now have confirmation that Amazon is about to release a couple of new Kindles for 2024.
What appears to be two new Kindle models turned up on the FCC website earlier this week, product ID number 5698 and 5688.
The FCC paperwork reveals very little information about the upcoming devices, but both models appear to be Kindles. Both are described as an “Electronic Display Device” under the application details. If you go back and look at the FCC filings for the 2022 Kindle and Kindle Scribe it says the exact same thing.
I think Amazon is going to announce the new Kindles on September 24th, but that’s just a guess. In 2022, they announced the new Kindle on the same day that it appeared on the FCC, same with the Kindle Scribe, but apparently their timing didn’t line up this time around.
With the base Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite going in and out of stock all month on multiple Amazon websites, it was pretty obvious that they were getting replaced soon. This just confirms it.
I do think these new Kindles will be a new entry-level model and a new Paperwhite model, but Amazon might surprise us and do something different. A new color model isn’t out of the question, but rumors suggest that color Kindles aren’t coming out until 2025.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon added stylus support to the Kindle Paperwhite like Kobo did with the Libra Colour. Both devices are similar in size and a stylus would add a lot more functionality to the Paperwhite.
If they release a new entry-level model, hopefully it’ll get a warm frontlight upgrade like other Kindles. It’s the only Kindle model with a regular frontlight. Other companies offer warm frontlights on their base models now so Amazon should consider doing the same.
If you’re planning on buying a Kindle soon, you might want to wait a few weeks for the new models to come out, and the older models will probably go on sale on October 8th and 9th during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days sale.

I’m a very optimistic person…..except when it comes to Amazon’s indifference towards the Kindle.
I hope I am proven wrong and the new models hit it out of the park. 🤞

Unless it has buttons and at least a 7” screen, I’m not interested. A new Paperwhite… deep yawn. Utterly boring.

Amazon has way deeper problems that will not be resolved by a new Kindle release. They need to focus on better software and bug issues.

It’s a longshot but it would be nice if buttons came back to Kindle. I love my Voyage but I don’t like reading on it at night.
