Boox Tab X C with 13.3″ Color E Ink Screen Released (Videos)

April 29, 2025 by Nathan 3 Comments

Onyx Boox Tab X C

Onyx has released a new large-screen eNote called the Boox Tab X C. It’s their first model to feature a 13.3″ color E Ink screen (it uses a Kaleido 3 screen like Onyx’s other color models, not a Gallery screen like the Remarkable Paper Pro).

The Tab X C is a lot like the Note Max with a 13.3″ black and white E Ink screen (Carta 1300) that Onyx released a few months ago. Both run Android 13 and they share many of the same specs and features, but there are a few key differences with the new Tab X C (aside from the color screen).

For starters, the Tab X C model adds a frontlight because color E Ink is too dark on its own. Another key difference is the stylus. The Tab X C is using Onyx’s new stylus technology instead of Wacom like the Note Max (and most other eNotes). Onyx’s “InkSpire” stylus requires charging, unlike Wacom styli, and the writing feel is likely different.

The Tab X C also has a larger battery than the Note Max (5500 mAh vs 3700 mAh), and it’s 10 grams heavier at 625 grams. But most of the other specs are the same.

Boox Tab X C Specs

  • 13.3″ Kaleido 3 E Ink screen.
  • Resolution: 3200 x 2400 (300 ppi) BW; 1600 x 1200 (150 ppi) color.
  • Frontlight with adjustable color temperature.
  • Supports Boox’s InkSpire stylus (included) and capacitive touch.
  • 2.8Ghz Octa-core CPU with BSR.
  • 6GB of RAM.
  • 128GB internal storage space.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi + BT 5.0.
  • Rotation sensor.
  • USB-C port with OTG support.
  • Android 13 OS with Google Play for apps.
  • Dual speakers.
  • Microphone.
  • Battery: 5,500mAh Li-ion Polymer.
  • Dimensions: 287.5 x 243 x 5.3 mm.
  • Weight: Approx. 625 grams.
  • Price: $819 USD ($759 outside of US).

The Tab X C is available to order now from Onyx’s website for $819, but I would advise waiting for it to turn up on Onyx’s Amazon store if you plan to buy it, especially considering it’s so expensive. If you have to return it for some reason you won’t have to deal with Onyx’s questionable return policy and restocking fees. Update: The Boox Tab X C is now available to order on Amazon for $819 with free shipping.

I wonder why any other company, aside Remarkable, has developed an ereader with Gallery technology. It is now responsive enough for an ereader, altough not for a tablet.

Hopefully they can get the refresh times down. I really would prefer Gallery as that would avoid the screen door effect the current color e-readers have. No true black on text…but I am ok with that.

This tablet must appear sharper than most color e-readers.because it is 300 dpi over a much larger size.
