Both New Boox Go 7 Series eReaders Now Available on Amazon

May 9, 2025 by Nathan 5 Comments

Boox Go 7 BW

If you’re looking to get one of the new Boox Go 7 ereaders that Onyx recently announced, both versions are now available to order on Amazon, and if you have a Prime membership you can get the black and white model as soon as tomorrow.

There are two different versions of the new Boox Go 7. One has a standard black and white E Ink screen, and the other has a color E Ink screen. The BW version sells for $249 in the US and the color version sells for $279. Here are the Amazon links:

Boox Go 7 Color Gen II

One weird thing is the BW version isn’t being sold by Onyx, but Onyx has always been reluctant to sell their smaller BW ereaders on Amazon for some reason so that’s not surprising. It’s being shipped by Amazon so the listing appears to be legit. The same seller also has the smaller Go 6 available, which Onyx has always refused to sell on Amazon directly.

Both new Go 7 models are identical except for the screens. I can see people getting confused over the fact that only the color version is referred to as “Gen II”. There wasn’t a first gen BW version so Onyx is omitting that from its title even though the specs and software are the same as the Gen II color version.

There really isn’t much of a difference between the first and second gen Go Color 7. The new models run Android 13 instead of 12, and they’re using a newer CPU. They also changed the buttons slightly on the new model (they aren’t as close together now) and they added support for Onyx’s new InkSense stylus for notetaking. The BW version also supports the stylus, but in both cases it’s sold separately, and it’s not available to order on Amazon yet.

The Go 7 BW has a 7″ Carta 1300 screen with 300 ppi. The color version has a 7″ Kaleido 3 screen with 300 ppi for BW and 150 ppi for color. Both have frontlights, microSD card slots, rotation sensors, octa-core CPUs with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space. There’s also a built-in speaker and mic, and the battery is 2300 mAh.

I still have the first gen Go Color 7 and the design is really nice. It has more of a premium feel to it than the Kobo Libra Colour, and I like Onyx’s gesture-based navigation. The only downside with the Go 7 series is the lack of BSR support for faster and smoother refreshing and less ghosting, but battery life is better without it. The Boox Plama 2 has BSR, and I like the form-factor of it better than the Go 7, but it lacks stylus support and there isn’t a color version.

Anyone know what technology the new stylus uses? Perhaps it is similar to the Microsoft Surface Pen?

I read it might be USI compatible but nobody really knows for sure yet.

The b/w seems to be only sold by a low rated reseller.

Yesterday they were a no-rated seller, and the one complaint is shipping related, which is handled by Amazon, so it’s not really relevant. As long as it’s being shipped by Amazon they’re the one in control of the product so I wouldn’t have any qualms about ordering from a new seller in that case. In fact I did order one so we’ll find out.

Look forward to your review – I’m still looking for an Android equivalent to the Kobo Forma. Love the Forma but I want to be able to switch seamlessly between phone and e-reader, syncing & using Moon Reader on both.
