Kindle Anniversary – Amazon Giving Kindle Owners a Special Discount

September 8, 2025 by Nathan Groezinger 2 Comments

Kindle Anniversary

Amazon is sending out emails to some Kindle owners about an anniversary of Kindle ownership, with a 20% off discount code to buy a new Kindle. It’s a targeted discount so it won’t be available for everyone, but I noticed something odd about the offer.

I received one of the anniversary emails, and one of the first things I noticed is it’s not accurate at all. It shows the wrong anniversary date.

The email says the following: “You registered your first Kindle device 14 years ago this month. To reward you for your loyalty, this month only, we’re giving you 20% off any current generation Kindle with code KA2025 at checkout. This offer ends on 2025-09-30…”

I didn’t think that sounded right considering I first started this website in 2009, so I looked it up and this so-called anniversary is completely inaccurate.

One of the great things about Amazon is you can still look up orders from over 20 years ago. I did some digging and found that I first registered a Kindle in July of 2010, and here’s the review to prove it. So they got the month and the year wrong—that kind of thing wouldn’t go over very well with most anniversaries.

I looked up my orders from September 2011 and I found that I ordered a Kindle Touch during that time. For some reason they think that was my first Kindle, even though it was my third at that point.

Has anyone else noticed a discrepancy with the anniversary date on these emails? It’s kind of funny how Amazon can’t get their own order history right. But the discount offer is a nice touch, even if it is just another Amazon sale masquerading as an anniversary discount.

Being able to get 20% off is actually a bigger discount than some of Amazon’s typical Kindle sales. They just had the new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft on sale for Labor day for $220. With this 20% off discount it can be had for $200. I wonder if the discount stacks with a trade-in discount…

I received one of these anniversary emails as well. Coincidentally, it also claims to be my 14 year anniversary. My actual first Kindle purchase was a Kindle Keyboard in July of 2010.

Never seen one before but I’ll be keeping an eye out. My first Kindle was registered December 2012. Not that I’d purchase a new Kindle unless they released a new Colorsoft SE with some minor adjustments. I’m happy with my Colorsoft and Scribe.

That Kindle 3 review is unintentionally funny. So many complaints about Amazon not offering XYZ holds true today. Also interesting to see the birth of common features like Collections and “sync your reading progress on the Kindle app for different platforms and devices.”
