New Limited Edition Nook Available to Pre-Order

September 27, 2025 by Nathan Groezinger 9 Comments

Limited Edition Teal Nook

Barnes and Noble has a new Nook available to pre-order on their website, and it’s expected to get released on November 20th, but the weird thing is it’s not really new.

Barnes and Noble is effectively re-releasing the Nook Glowlight 4 that came out in 2021. But this new version is an Ocean Teal color instead of black. Everything else appears to be exactly the same as the original Glowlight 4.

A B&N rep recently confirmed in an interview that they plan to release new Nook devices in 2026, so this is a bit surprising. It’s not really new so I guess that’s technically correct, and only B&N would release a new color for a device that’s now going on 4 years old.

Maybe this kind of thing will become a new fad, where companies start re-releasing older models. I think people would actually be pretty into that. Plenty of people would like to buy a new Kobo Libra 2, or a new Kindle Voyage or Kindle Oasis. B&N might really be onto something here.

The new Ocean Teal Nook Glowlight 4 is available to pre-order for $149.99, but you can get it for $119.99 with coupon code UPGRADE20. That’s the same price as the original black version, so at least the price hasn’t gone up during the past 4 years.

Upgrade Your Nook Device Promo

B&N has an ongoing promotion that expires on November 1st where you can get 20% off when buying a new Nook with the UPGRADE20 code mentioned above, and it seems to work on this new Nook. The promo says it’s for current Nook device owners that want to upgrade to a new model, but they don’t appear to be verifying that. You can apply the code and it works without being signed in, so it doesn’t seem to matter if you’re a current Nook owner or not.

That’s an exceptionally nice color. The kind of color I wouldn’t mind on any electronic device, not just an e-reader.

Indeed. It is a lovely shade of greenish.

Even if it wasn’t, I’d probably still like it. Anything that isn’t black or white is automatically more interesting to me just because it isn’t black or white.

It is a nice color change but probably the same software which caused me to abandon Nook completely. It’s a shame that they can’t see clearly where their problems are.

My first reader was a Nook. Was great once it was jailbroken. This one might be a good device if it can be jailbroken.

My first ereader was Nook also and I loved the first three made. The devices themselves were great but the software has gotten progressively worse. I do not know how to jailbreak a device so I just switched to Kobo. I have kept Amazon Kindle unlimited for my 90 year old Aunt but I don’t use Kindles.

A Nook with KOReader might actually be a pretty good combination, if possible.

I installed the apk from github using adb. It is very good with koreader….except for battery life, storage access and page turn buttons. Probably my favorite reader right now if those problems were fixed. As it is I rarely use it.

Glenn, you don’t like the page turn buttons? Or are they faulty?

I like page turn buttons, and the buttons on the Nook are pretty good. They just didn’t do anything in KOReader last time I tried it. Adding the key mappings to the app is not too hard (for an Android developer), but using touchscreen worked fine too. I mostly got tired of fighting the device to run an app that works well on Kobo, Pocketbook, jailbroken Kindle and most other Android based readers.
