Amazon has added some new cover choices to their official fabric cases for the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft. The covers are now available with clear backs.
The new clear back Kindle covers are the same price as the original covers with solid-colored backs, and the same front cover colors are available so you have green, pink, and black to choose from.
So far the clear backs are only available on the fabric covers for the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft. They don’t have the clear option for the leather covers, and none of the other Kindle models have clear cases yet either. At least not with Amazon’s official covers.
It seems like half the Kindle-related posts on social media are people posting pictures of their Kindles with stickers all over them. For some reason these people seem to prefer putting the stickers directly on their Kindles instead on the case, so having a clear case with the stickers showing through is kind of a big deal now.
Amazon even added a new picture to the product page for their fabric covers showing the back of the Kindle with stickers on it, and they’re also including a pack of stickers with these new clear covers.
As an adult male this behavior seems strange to me, as I’ve never had the desire to put stickers on anything, but I can see which way the wind is blowing, and putting stickers on Kindles is the hot trend now, so Amazon selling their own clear cases that come with stickers makes sense.
The clear backs are also a good choice if you bought either a pink or green Kindle and want the color to show through. I always thought it was weird how Amazon sold the Kindle Paperwhite with different colors, but then 95% of the color is hidden when using a case.

I want one with a clear front cover, to see the color book cover when the cover is closed! Nobody sells anything like that for any ereader, that I have found.
Oooh THAT would be NICE!
People sometimes apply the stickers to cardstock, a thick piece of paper that sits between the Kindle and the case, so they won’t damage the Kindle and have the option to swap out sticker collages whenever they wish.
Personally, the stickers idea is intriguing, but I’m not sure I like the idea of the feel of the plastic cover while I’m holding my Kindle. For me, the feel of the case takes precedence over aesthetics. I’m not worried about losing my grip and dropping the case, I just prefer a pleasant sensation.
I find that adding stickers on the clear back cover or on the back of the kindle helps hide fingerprints.
I don’t use stickers to decorate my devices, but do insert attractive fabric or paper cut outs between the device and a clear case. The tight fit of the clear back holds the decorations in place, and I can see through the case to the part of the device back that isn’t decorated if I use decorations that are smaller than the back. Makes it very easy to change out the decorations whenever I wish.
Also, forgot to mention that I like the clear plastic cases for grippiness, as I do worry about things slipping out of my hands.
AS an ostensibly-adult male, I HAVE had the urge to put stickers on every piece of technology I own.
More precisely, I have a powerful urge to put a single autobot or decepticon logo on every piece of technology I own.
Now I want an autobot sticker for my Kindle!
It’s mostly a girl thing, you start in school decorating all your notebooks, boys do it too with cars, sports, etc, but it’s girls mostly obsessing about it ;-). That’s the reason for the popularity of the various decal sites.
I went through the rabbit hole of the (romance) book theme stickers, and now I have in my wishlist various collections, and I don’t have a Kindle. Hoping for the various chinese ereader cover brands to copy the idea and even provide several paper sheets cut to the dimensions of the back of the reader so you can easily change the decorating stickers (Moko, Kwmobile, etc, can you hear me?)
I agree that it did not make sense to buy a color body and then cover it up with a hard case. The sticker thing is not for me but I see it as a good thing for those who do it, it allows them to connect more with their devices. whatever it takes to make it more fun for them to read I see it as a good thing. They are having fun with their devices. Nothing wrong with that. I got a similar case for my Basic 10th gen which is in white and I enjoy it more than before.
