Onyx Hosting New Product Launch Event Next Week

October 15, 2025 by Nathan Groezinger 1 Comment

New Onyx Boox Devices

Onyx is going to announce some new Boox devices for the international market next week. They’re hosting a launch event on YouTube on October 21st at 10 AM GMT+8.

Onyx tends to release several new devices each year, and things have been kind of quiet lately. They did release new Go 7 models, including the Go 7 BW back in May, along with the 13.3″ Tab X C, but several of their other models are due for an update so it’ll be interesting to see what they come out with this year.

I thought it would be fun to try and guess what new products Onyx will announce next week. They’re pretty predictable since they usually just do minor updates to existing models, and I don’t expect this year to be any different.

Onyx recently showed off a new Palma with a color E Ink screen at IFA 2025, and it’s already available to pre-order in China, so they’ll most likely be announcing the new Palma next week for the international market as well.

In China, they released a color version and a black and white version of the new Palma. The new Palma seems to be mostly the same as the Palma 2, but they added 5G data support and the BW version is using a newer Carta 1300 screen now. The color version has more RAM (8GB instead of 6GB) and it adds stylus support.

I think Onyx will release a newer version of Note Air 4C too, likely the Note Air 5C. They’ve been releasing new Note Airs every year since the line came out in 2020 so I don’t expect this year to be any different.

If they do come out with a new Note Air, the big question is will it have an EMR touchscreen or will it have a USI touchscreen? The two aforementioned new devices that Onyx released earlier this year both use the latter, and most feel like that is a downgrade compared to Wacom touchscreens.

Onyx could release an updated version of the Boox Go 10.3 as well considering it’s been out longer than the Note Air 4C. It doesn’t seem to be quite as popular as the Note Air, but they could update the screen from Carta 1200 to Carta 1300, and slap on a newer version on Android like they always do.

The Boox Go 6 could stand to be updated too considering it’s running Android 11. Newer Boox devices run Android 13. But they just recently released a white version of the Go 6 a couple months ago so they probably won’t come out with a newer version until 2026, unless they decide to add a color version to the lineup.

Onyx seems to have abandoned their Tab Ultra line so I don’t expect to see anything new on that front. I don’t expect to see any new 13.3″ models either since they just released the Tab X C earlier this year, and the Note Max with a 13.3″ BW screen isn’t even a year old yet.

Lastly, there’s a chance Onyx could bring back something with a 7.8″ or 8″ screen. They used offer various models in those sizes, but they slowly phased them all out without any replacements. Onyx does sell a Note X5 Mini in China now with a 7.8″ screen, so maybe they have plans to bring back a similar model to the international market.

Palma with cellular would be fantastic for my commute. Trying to reduce my phone use (already did for music) but I still need it for train departures. This would make me be able to leave my Kindle, read I stapaper, not be tempted by my phone, and still be able to check for delays…
