Amazon released the new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft back on December 10th, but they’ve only been selling the standard “graphite” color with a dark bezel and back.
Now the Fig Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is finally available to order with a much more colorful look, being drenched in dark red front and back. Even the stylus is red. And unlike the graphite version, the fig version is shipping right away, at least for the time being. Shipping for the graphite version has been 2-4 weeks out since it was released.
For some reason the red version is only available with 64GB of storage space; the 32GB model costs $50 less but it’s available in graphite only. The red version costs the same as the 64GB graphite version, and it’s the most expensive Kindle ever by a wide margin at $679.99.
On the plus side, you can get a 20% discount by trading in an old Kindle, which would take the price down to $543.99. Getting $135.99 off by trading an old broken Kindle that’s only worth $5 is the way to win the price war against Amazon on this—everyone should do it.
Other than the color, the Fig Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is exactly the same as the regular graphite version. It would be nice if Amazon would add more real pictures of the red Kindle Scribe on their website instead of just a bunch of phoney renderings, but it’s the internet so everything has to be fake. It would be nice to see some real pictures to get a better idea of what the color looks like in real life. Normally I’m not a fan of red devices, but the dark red does look nice.
Are you planning on getting a Fig Kindle Scribe Colorsoft? Or are you going to wait for it to go on sale first? It’ll be interesting to see how big the discounts are when Amazon finally starts putting these new Kindle Scribes on sale. Prime Day might be epic this year.

My wife has been using my older Scribe B&W. She said if she wants to pay $600 or more on a device she’ll just buy an iPad.
I never understand the iPad comparisons. If I want an ereader, an iPad is useless, whatever the price point – and if I don’t care for an ereader, why not use the phone/tablet in the first place?
I do get that it’s expensive, don’t get me wrong, I just think it’s a different kind of product for different purposes.
Thank you for posting this, as it reflects my sentiments well.
I am not a fan of Amazon, and have been boycotting them for over ten years. However, I am keenly interested in the new Kindle Scribe, as I have been wanting a large E Ink device to use as an ereader and note taker for a long time. I don’t like the original Scribe, reMarkable refuses to add any significant features to make their tablets good ereaders, and Kobo’s multicolumn implementation in landscape mode stinks. And I don’t want to buy any Chinese devices, so I have been stuck. I’ll have to see the Fig Kindle Scribe Colorsoft in person before passing judgement, but I am delighted that there might finally be a good option for me.
Not buying at all. I love the color but hate the price and not too thrilled with Kindle. I am saving my money to see what Kobo offers up. Hopefully they will release an updated Elipsa.
Agreed
Looks purple to me, not red. Either way, not interested.
Throw in another 5% if you use an Amazon rewards card. Then your local government will add sales tax and you are back to $680. 😂
Not a fan of the color. If I was to buy a Scribe Colorsoft, I would choose the graphite version. I like the turquoise color of the 64 GB Scribe 2 though.
Even with a trade-in, I don’t think I would spend $543 for one. My only use for a Scribe Colorsoft would be to jailbreak it and read my CBR comic files on it. But some scans aren’t the best of quality and I worry that panels with faded text may not show up properly on an e-ink screen.
If Kobo ever releases a 10″ color screen, that I might buy, since it handles CBR files natively, but even then, I’d prefer it to be no more then $500. I can’t justify so much money primarily to read comics that I already read on my $250 tablet that is capable of so much more.
The above comments capture my sentiments exactly. The device is appealing but the price is out of line. I’ll keep an eye on sales, but I imagine it’ll be a while before we see significant price reductions.
