Ever since Amazon released the latest 5.19.2 software update for Kindles last week, there have been a number of reports of various problems cropping up.
Yesterday there were a bunch of reports of people encountering a “storage full” error on Kindles when trying to add highlights, notes, or bookmarks. The error pops up even when the Kindle has plenty of storage space available.
It sounds like Amazon has already fixed the problem for the most part, but if you still encounter the error hold down the power button and then select Restart, and that should fix the issue after your Kindle reboots. That’s pretty much the answer to everything in this type of situation.
There seems to be some other problems with the software update as well. There are reports of extra white space getting added to the margins of manga files. Some say it goes back to normal when you sign out of your Amazon account, but then the problem returns when signing back in.
I’ve heard some reports of extra blank pages getting added to comics for some Kindle Scribe users too, but I think that’s been going on for a while now.
It seems like Kindles are getting buggier with each passing year. I think the Kindle Scribe is at the root of the problem in some ways. Ever since Amazon released the Kindle Scribe all their software development is centered around it. Regular Kindles are getting fewer new features than they use to, and they keep trying to shoehorn changes from the Kindle Scribe into the regular Kindle software, like how they’re changing bookmarks and started lumping them in with notes and highlights.
I just tried to download a personal document PDF onto my Kindle Paperwhite with the latest 5.19.2 software and it got stuck on “queued” and wouldn’t do anything. I canceled the download and the file magically appeared as downloaded, so who knows what’s going on. There seems to be a lot of issues downloading stuff lately too, even before this most recent update.
Have you encountered any new bugs on your Kindle since updating?
