The DreamBook Color ebook player W95 is an Australian ebook reader/tablet hybrid. It has the form factor of an ebook reader but with a color LCD screen for viewing videos, photos, etc.
It’s made by Pioneer Computers Australia, the #1 manufacturer of notebooks, PC’s, and servers in Australia, according to their website.
Like the Pandigital Novel and Augen ebook reader, the DreamBook W95 is among a new sub-category of ereader that uses a color LCD screen and doubles as a multimedia device instead of focusing on just e-reading.
One of the main drawbacks of these types of devices is battery life. The DreamBook’s battery will last for 7-8 hours for reading, 5 hours for video playback, and about 30 hours of audio with the screen shut off.
On the positive side, the DreamBook has a lot of features and is listed at just $149 on Pioneer’s website (although they don’t appear to sell it). It has a 5-inch color TFT display with a resolution of 800 x 480. It comes with 1GB internal memory and has an SD memory card slot. Text-to-speech and G-sensor are listed as optional.
Some other features include voice recording, calendar, portrait and landscape modes, and ergonomic buttons for use with both hands.
