Amazon missed a big opportunity with the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition. Instead of just adding a couple of extra fairly useless features like the light sensor and wireless charging, they should have added stylus support.
The Kindle Scribe is the only Kindle that supports using a stylus, but the simple fact of the matter is a lot of people don’t want to carry around a Kindle Scribe because it’s so huge.
Amazon really should offer stylus support on a smaller model too, like Kobo does with the Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Sage, and Onyx does with their new Boox Go 7 series.
The Boox Go 7 and Kobo Libra both have the same size screen as the Kindle Paperwhite. Amazon could easily add notetaking support to the Kindle Paperwhite too if they really wanted to, and that would give people another reason to upgrade to a newer model and pay extra for a stylus.
The Kindle Scribe clearly isn’t as popular as Amazon had hoped, but that doesn’t mean they need to ditch their notetaking system—they just need to make it more widely accessible.
Amazon has added a lot of new notetaking features to the Kindle Scribe since it was released, and it’s a shame that only a small percentage of Kindle users get to take advantage of those notetaking features.
I thought Amazon would maybe release a Kindle Scribe Mini with a smaller screen, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon. The better option would be to add notetaking support to the most popular Kindle model of all time—the Kindle Paperwhite.
They could sell the stylus separately like Kobo and Onyx does with their smaller models. I think more people would be interested in that option than dropping $400 on a Kindle Scribe that isn’t nearly as portable as the smaller Paperwhite. After all, small notepads exist too.
Although I use the Scribe only for reading, the more features they add to e-readers, the better. Then it’s up to each user to decide what they use and what they don’t use. I have several e-readers of different brands and sizes with a note-taking function and I keep my pens in storage. I prefer it to be something optional that allows me to adjust it to my needs.
No, I don’t want stylus support on the Paperwhite.
Personally, not interested in a stylus supported Paperwhite, but I imagine demand is out there. I had to purchase a new Android tablet this morning as my previous model is no longer functioning. It suits my needs perfectly but many reviews, professional and personal, lament the lack of stylus support. I see many Kobo Libra reviews that dislike the stylus being a separate, and expensive, purchase, wishing for a bundle option.
If Amazon brought the note taking features from the scribe into a smaller more portable Kindle like the SE or Basic people might buy that more than the scribe. It could also be another selling point to the colorsoft too. Scribe to me is just too big for those times when you are out in the town and need to make a quick note of something.
I have no desire for a stylus. I use my Kindle PW SE for reading only. I don’t take notes. I read a book gor enjoyment. I don’t reread books either.
