Sony has finally launched the Reader Store UK to give ebook readers across the pond another choice when purchasing ebooks.
Up until now, Sony only sold ebooks to the US, Canada, and Japan. Sony Reader customers in the UK had to get ebook through other sources like Waterstones, WHSmith, and Feedbooks.
Now that the Sony UK ebook store has gone live, it should make getting ebooks using the Sony PRS-T1 a lot more pleasant now that the on-board store actually works.
And it’s not just Sony Readers that can read ebooks from the Sony ebook store. Sony’s ebooks use straight up Adobe DRM so any device or software that supports Adobe Digital Editions is compatible with Sony’s ebooks.
Right now it doesn’t look like Sony’s Reader app for Android has been updated for the UK store yet. The software page at the Reader Store UK just lists the Reader for Mac and Reader for PC applications at this point in time.
The UK Reader Store doesn’t appear to have very many ebooks just yet. And they’ve only got two newspaper subscriptions available. But it’s a start.
For those wondering who can purchase ebooks from the UK Reader Store, the terms of service indicate the store is only available to users with a credit card and a United Kingdom address. So unfortunately other parts of Europe cannot get ebooks through the UK site.
