Kobo has started rolling out software updates for their line of ereaders, and unlike the last update that was only available for their new models, this one is available for pretty much all of them (except the few models they no longer update, like the Kobo Mini and the first couple of non-touchscreen Kobos).
It looks like Kobo is going to have different software versions for their new models moving forward. The new firmware version for their older models is 4.38.23171, and the version for their three new models—the Kobo Libra Colour, the Clara Colour, and the Clara BW—is 4.41.23145.
The update adds a new dictionary for 2024, the Oxford Dictionary of English. And Kobo improved the parental controls and the OverDrive setup process, and they fixed a syncing issue.
The Kobo Libra Colour also got the option to wake the device by pressing the page-turn buttons, but oddly none of Kobo’s other models with page buttons list that feature in the release notes.
Hopefully that doesn’t mean they’re going to start holding back new features on their older models now. It’s weird how they updated them all, but only the Libra Colour gets this new feature.

Download Software Update
There are two ways to update the software on Kobo’s ereaders. You can do nothing and wait for the update to download and install automatically on its own at some point in the future while your Kobo is syncing, but Kobo usually rolls out updates slowly to different regions and affiliates so that might take several weeks.
If you want the software update now, you can manually install the new software at your convenience by downloading it for your specific model from the Kobo Firmware Updates page. Then extract the zip file and place it in the .kobo folder on your Kobo device.
