Amazon has added the Kindle Scribe to their list of Black Friday Kindle Deals, along with the Essentials Bundle pack that adds a cover and a wall charger.
The sale only includes the 16GB Kindle Scribe with the basic stylus; all other versions are either sold out or aren’t on sale. It’s the original Kindle Scribe that’s on sale, not the new one that’s getting released next week.
The price is marked down to $269 from $339, and you can also get 10% back when using a Prime Visa card.
That’s not the lowest price the Scribe has sold for, but I have a feeling that’s the lowest price it’s going to hit for a long time. Now that Amazon has jacked up the price of the new model to $399 for the 16GB model, the Scribe might not go lower than $269 again.
They only changed a couple of details with the new Kindle Scribe, and they’re still calling it a 1st gen model, so unless you want to pay $130+ more for a white bezel and a nicer stylus then you might want to get the 2022 version while it’s cheap since all the main features and hardware are unchanged.
Amazon says they’re going to update the software on the original Scribe to add the new software features they’re advertising on the new model, so there shouldn’t be any differences on the software front.
There are two bundle packages on sale as well. The Kindle Scribe Essentials Bundle with a leather cover is $329.97 and the Kindle Scribe Essentials Bundle with the brush print leather cover is $339.97. The official Amazon covers are nice but if you don’t want to spend that much you can get a 3rd-party cover for a lot less, under $20.

I bought one today, delivering tuesday. I’m not sure if it won’t be too big and uncomfortable, but I’m gonna give it a try. I bought the 16GB version as I only want it for home reading and don’t care about note taking or PDFs. I have Apple Pencil and I used it like three times with my iPad (it came free with it as a bonus). I much prefer writing notes on computer (I write with all ten fingers pretty fast) or with real paper for notes.

When it arrives, I would love to hear your thoughts. I also have no interest in the writing aspect, but the big screen has me curious if it would be a comfortable e-reader.

Alright, I’ll try to remember to come back here 🙂 For me it’s the size (easier to read while on the stand when I’m eating etc, and I know I’m okay reading comics on my 12.9″ iPad so hopefully the size should be okay. I also love that it has the premium Oasis style. I just wish they made smaller version in the future. 8″ to 8.5″ version would be just perfect cozy reader for reading at home 🙂

So it arrived early today. And I must say I didn’t have to worry, the size is just perfect for home reading. It’s pretty light and the screen size is nice, it’s like having full size book in my hand. But it’s only comfortable to use if you put it in your lap or on a table, not when holding it in the air, it’s to heavy for that. But I use my iPad the same way, so that was expected.
The only thing that I don’t like is the big bezel on one side. If it wasn’t there it would be perfect, I’m a leftie and it doesn’t make sense for me, when I hold it by the bezel I can hardly reach out enough to turn page forward. So I hold it by the side with smaller bezel which is big enough to hold it comfortably. I wish they either removed the bezel or let us switch gestures (tap zones) for page turn back and forward. But other than that I’m very happy.
I also ordered the leather case. It’s kinda awkward how it flips up, not to the side (just unusual, ot bad), but it’s functional, I like how my reader can stand vertically on the table when I’m eating. But I will definitely only use it while eating and to store the reader. While holding Scribe and reading, I’ll definitely take it out of the case, becase the case adds 50% more weight which is a huge difference.
As for the pen, I tried it for two or three minutes and put it away. When I’m using it it feels like I’m gonna scratch the screen plus I have no need for it. I’m mostly reading sideloaded books and for those I can’t highlight anything or make notes in it. The only option is sticky note which is useless. Plus the conversion of handwritten text into computer text won’t work for my language, so that’s another reason why not to use it.
Bottom line, case if very functional, Scribe has the perfect size and nice screen, just the bezel is dumb, but I’m happy with my purchase overall. As a note taking device it’s not good, as a big reader it’s great.

Yeah, the bigger screen is nice for reading in the evening when my eyes are tired, but I’ve just never been much of a hand-written note-taker. If I’m going to take notes I’d rather just type them out, where everything is perfectly uniform and easy to edit and rearrange.

I love the Scribe, and I am using it exclusively for reading. I could live with a screen that‘s a little smaller, but I won’t go back to 7 inches again.
