Onyx Now Giving Away Free Covers With Some Amazon Purchases

June 30, 2025 by Nathan Groezinger 3 Comments

Boox Max Case Bundle

Onyx recently started selling bundle packages for some of their devices on Amazon that includes a case, and the interesting thing is the bundle packages are the exact same price as buying the devices individually by themselves.

You can get a Boox Go 10.3 with a case for $409.99. The case normally sells for $50.99 by itself so you’re essentially getting $51 off. Here’s my review of the Boox Go 10.3 if you want to learn more about it.

The also have the Boox Note Max case bundle for $689.99. That case also sells for $50.99 so it’s like getting a $51 discount on Onyx’s 13.3″ black and white model.

Lastly, they have a Palma 2 case bundle for $299 that includes a free transparent case for the Boox Palma 2. The case sells for $19.99 on its own so it’s not as big of a discount as the other devices, but it’s better than paying $300 and not getting a case at all like Onyx’s main listing for the Palma. The Palma 2 is a great portable ereader that has the shape of a phone. See my Boox Palma 2 review for a closer look.

There’s no reason not to get the case bundle if you plan on buying one of these devices. I don’t know why they don’t include the free cases automatically when purchasing these devices, so you have to be paying attention to get the case bundles for the same price.

Onyx doesn’t usually do sales until a model is getting replaced by a newer version so being able to get a discount at all is somewhat unusual for Onyx.

For a long time Onyx has included free covers when purchasing directly from their website, but their return policy is really not customer friendly at all (they basically treat all returns like the customer is trying to scam them) so everybody always advises ordering from Amazon instead because of their easy return policy. The only downside with that is you have to give up the free cover, but apparently that isn’t the case (pardon the pun) anymore.

It should be noted that the case for the 10″ has horrible reviews.

The case for the 13″ states the following: (which I find pretty funny)
“The case requires removal during charging due to aesthetic design choices
The magnetic design intentionally uses weaker magnets to prevent interference with E Ink screen performance, a critical technical requirement for e-paper devices. This is a deliberate safety feature, not a product defect.”

To be fair a lot of their older covers did interfere with the Wacom touchscreen because of the magnets causing dead spots. I like the Scribe’s magnetic case, personally, but I haven’t tried any of Onyx’s cases lately.

Ehh, it is probably similar to the Scribe’s magnetic cover which doesn’t hold on all that tightly in many circumstances.

I have a Note3 with the included cover which holds on great due to the adhesive. But the case looks very worn now.

Neither of the above cases seem very protective though. I do however enjoy the lack of bulk
