Woot is doing another round of “refurbished” Kindle sales that will probably sell out quickly, like usual, but if you want a Kindle for really cheap now is the time to get one.
They have the 1st gen Kindle Scribe, the 11th gen Kindle from 2022, and the 11th gen Kindle Paperwhite from 2021. All are listed as refurbished, but the Paperwhite is labeled as “scratch and dent” so you can expect some wear on those, but the other models should be in like new condition.
All the Kindles are eligible for an additional 25% off the list price with coupon code KINDLE25. Limit one per customer. The deal expires on June 18 at 11:58pm CT.
One of the better deals is the previous gen Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition for $52.50 with the coupon. Or you can get the 8GB version for $37.50. These are the 11th gen models with a 6.8″ screen. They’re mostly the same as the current Paperwhite from a features standpoint, but some people like the frontlight better on the 11th gen because the cool light is less yellow. If “scratch and dent” isn’t your thing, Woot has the 11th gen Kindle for $52.50 with the coupon code. These are listed as Grade A refurbished so they should be in excellent condition. Lastly, the 1st gen Kindle Scribe can be had for as little as $149.99 with the coupon. That’s for the 16GB version. Or you can get the 32GB version for $164.99, or the 64GB version for $187.49. They also come with a premium stylus. Those prices are pretty crazy considering the current Kindle Scribe with a frontlight starts at $499.
If you’d rather get a brand new current gen Kindle, some early Prime Day sales are likely to start on Kindles this week.
Besides the screen size, is there any difference in screen/text quality between the Paperwhite and the basic Kindle?
And other than the basic Kindle lacking a warm frontlight, is there any other real difference between the two?
Yeah there are differences, and it depends on what two versions you’re comparing. 2022 Kindle vs Kindle Paperwhite 5. 2024 Kindle vs Kindle Paperwhite 6. To me the PW6 has the best screen as far as contrast goes and ink darkness, and the frontlight makes the text stand out more than the basic, but there are times when the flush layer can make the screen look worse.
Prime day is around the corner. June 23rd to 26th. So, the $110 Kindle and $160 Paperwhite prices will most likely drop. Amazon has a very generous return policy if you don’t like your purchase.
