Amazon’s latest Kindle Paperwhite, the 10th generation model, is on sale for $89 just in time for Mother’s Day—but probably not from where you’d expect.
Amazon usually puts Kindles on sale for Mother’s Day, but so far this year they’ve neglected to do so, other than the typical 20% off deal when buying 2 Kindles, which they’ve being doing all the time lately whenever Kindles aren’t on sale.
Update: One day later and Kindles are finally on sale at Amazon, but this deal is still better unless you’re buying two.
Luckily Target has come through by putting the Kindle Paperwhite 4 on sale for $89.99 with free shipping or store pickup.
That’s $40 off the regular price of the 8GB model with Special Offers so it’s a pretty good deal. In fact it’s the same price Amazon is selling the base Kindle for right now so you’re definitely better off getting the upgraded Paperwhite model instead.
Unfortunately that seems to be the only model that Target sells so if you’re looking for another configuration you’re out of luck.
Target’s free 2-day shipping option shows that it should arrive this week in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday the 10th.
Amazon has a page up for Mother’s Day Kindle deals, but the only deal worth noting is Kindle Unlimited Subscriptions for 20-40% off, which isn’t new, and most of the books being advertised aren’t even on sale. What gives, Amazon? Barnes and Noble and Kobo both have their ereaders on sale right now.

Apparently Amazon has cancelled Mother’s Day and Father’s Day sales in an attempt to sell less stuff, for some reason.

In an odd way that makes sense. I noticed they took down their long-standing Daily Deals page some time ago. And I miss the “related purchases” widget—that came in handy sometimes. But now today they’ve gone and put Kindles and Fire tablets on sale, but with their current shipping delays they really should’ve done it last week to ensure delivery before Mother’s Day.
