The Hisense A5 Pro CC is a new Android smartphone that recently hit the market. Hisense has released a number of E Ink phones over the years but this is the first phone to feature a color E Ink screen.
It sells from the Cect-Shop for around $330 USD, depending on the current exchange rate. It’s available in two configurations, 4GB+64GB or 6GB+128GB, and there are three colors choices.
The Hisense A5 Pro CC has a 5.84-inch color E Ink screen with a resolution of 1440 x 720. It supports 4096 colors and it has a frontlight as well.
It has a microSD card slot, USB-C port, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a fingerprint reader, headphone jack, NFC, dual SIM, front and rear cameras (5MP and 13MP), a 4000mAh battery, and it has an octa-core 1.82GHz processor.
The device runs Android 10 but unfortunately it doesn’t support Google apps. Someone might find a workaround eventually but that’s a big negative at this point.
The Cect-Shop uploaded a YouTube video showing the device in action, and other videos have been posted as well showing game and video performance on the color E Ink screen.
I’m still not sure if there’s going to be much of a market for color E Ink phones. What do you think? Would you buy a phone with a color E Ink screen?

Many people are complaining it’s only about a hundred ppi in color mode. What do you think of it?
Nathan says
I think it looks pretty grainy, especially on that last video.
Sportbike Mike says
The live action video looks grainy but the game graphics look fine. Weird.
Tresty says
the last video is A5C not Pro

I might be interested in an eink phone (not necessarily color). Not so much because of readability but more if it means better battery life.
Sportbike Mike says
I’m interested if its a decent phone. I spend a lot of time looking at screens. While e-ink is still a screen its much less of one. It does need to be a decent phone though. Nothing crazy, I am using a middle of the road 3 year old phone now, so my standards aren’t crazy high. This is in my price range so its a strong maybe. I’m not sure it can break my loyalty to Motorola though.
Tim says
I’d definitely buy this if it supported Google apps. All backlit screens hurt my eyes; I’ve been waiting for a phone like this since smartphones were invented! I hope a workaround for Google apps is found soon….
Yuyu says
There are already workaround, like using the Aurora store for example. And browsers to run the apps
Aaron says
So you can’t just side load google play appstore .apk on to it?
Nathan says
Sounds like it needs a custom built ROM.

I just got my A5 Pro CC. a couple of days ago. Working around the lack of Google Play support is a pain. If you suffer from eye pain and/or migraines from backlit screens it’s worth the effort. I have had a couple of dual screen devices (Yotaphone 2 and 3+) which did support Google Play. Still I much prefer the overall experience and usability of the Hisense A5 Pro CC.
Julio says
Did you get the google account setup, gmail, google play. Hangout, etc?
My work requires google ID.

Wondering if there is a dedicated protective case for the pro cc? I have not been able to find one that does not cover the fingerprint scanner since all cases are currently for the original a5c, and none for the a5 pro cc. Anyone have any ideas?
