There was a time earlier this year when Kindle ereaders rarely went on sale, but that time has ended.
Now it seems like Kindles are on sale every week, especially since the new Kindle Paperwhite 5 came along.
This time the Kindle Paperwhite 4 is marked down to $79.99, and all colors are the same price, unlike last time where the blue model was cheaper.
The entry-level Kindle is on sale for $59.99 again too, and the older Kids Kindle is $69.99 (they’re the same Kindle, and if you don’t want ads you’d be better off getting the kids version).
Unfortunately Amazon’s Kindle covers aren’t on sale this time around, but they do have a 10% back offer when buying some of the Kindle models using a Prime card, and you can also add three months of Kindle Unlimited for free.
Too bad Amazon doesn’t just keep the Paperwhite 4 around and make the price drop permanent. It’s much nicer than the entry-level model and is easily worth spending an extra $20 on. Once it’s gone then Amazon won’t even offer a 6-inch 300ppi Kindle anymore, and that’s really odd considering that’s been the standard since 2014.
The entry-level Kindle only has 167ppi, the same as the very first Kindle that was released in 2007. At some point you’d think they’d want to upgrade that. It would make a lot more sense to discontinue the entry-level model instead of the Paperwhite 4, but at least for the time being you can still get a Paperwhite 4 for really cheap. The 8GB models use to sell for $129 and the 32GB version was $159.

I would agree that the current paperwhite would make more sense as an entry model. In no way does it compete with the new versions.
I was wondering if they were going to update the basic model at some point soon too since those are also being discounted. Perhaps take the same Paperwhite and rebrand them under Kindle “Basic”. That would be good. Right now only the Paperwhite 5 even makes sense. The Oasis looks way overpriced compared to that.
Most versions of the Oasis have been out of stock too since the new Paperwhite was announced so it’s kind of weird they only released one new model. It makes you wonder if they’re going to discontinue the Oasis altogether like they did the Voyage.
Do you think there is any chance of the new Paperwhite going on sale on Black Friday? I mentioned to hubby to discuss with Santa, and he keeps getting ads from Amazon to preorder, now that he has looked at it. He is getting antsy. It seems my Paperwhite 4 is working fine, battery life seems OK after taking a few suggestions from commenters here. So, I would just as soon hold off buying.
Amazon doesn’t usually put new Kindles on sale less than 30 days after they get released so I kind of doubt it, but I would expect all the other models to be on sale.
When a batch of the 32GB w/cellular popped up I got one and Amazon applied a 20% trade-in. It ended up costing me 127.99.
I also bought a nice cloth-covered cover with easel and hand strap.
Still not quite the reader the Voyage is, but it looks like only the Oasis will have cellular and I was happy to dump mine.

It seems that remarkable has now a monthly paying model instead of the traditional buy and use. Any thoughts?

I think most people dislike subscription plans but like usual I think the internet is missing the point in a number of ways. A monthly plan isn’t required unless you want stuff like unlimited cloud storage and handwriting conversion, and if you do pay you get $100 off the Remarkable, $50 off accessories and you get an extended 3-year warranty so it’s not all bad. Remarkable isn’t some big rich company. Offering a subscription plan is probably about the only way they can stay afloat. That’s the problem with selling hardware and no content.
Lou Sevens here- Nathan thanks again for posting about the trade in- I am going to roll the dice and wait for BF in hopes the signature is reduced, then I’ll trade and send in my Oasis in the event I can get the Signature and confirm I like it.
– Tempted to do something similar with my regular PW as well- I just like the bigger screen on the Oasis more.
I almost feel as though Amazon doesn’t want to support the Oasis and even though it is a minute amount- they probably figure the Cost of Goods Sold with the buttons and materials are more .
