It’s time for another round of sales on Kindle ereaders. Amazon has most Kindles on sale except the Kindle Oasis and the Signature Edition of the new Paperwhite.
The entry-level Kindle, which will probably get replaced by a newer model soon, is marked down to $54.99 from $89.99. The kids version of it is also on sale for $64.99, down from the regular price of $109.99.
The new 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite is on sale too for $104.99. That’s $35 off the regular price of $139.99, and it ties the lowest price yet for the new Paperwhite from this past Black Friday.
However, the best deal of the bunch is the Kindle Paperwhite Kids on sale for $114.99. It’s exactly the same as the regular model but it comes with a cover, an upgraded 2-year warranty, and the kids version doesn’t have ads on the lockscreen, which Amazon charges $20 extra to remove on the standard version (although they’re currently selling the ad-free version for only $15 more while it’s on sale, instead of the usual $20 more).
Either way, now is a good time to snag a new Kindle Paperwhite at a discount. See my Kindle Paperwhite 5 review for more information about the device. You can also trade-in an old Kindle to get an additional 20% off the sale price.
Update: Amazon also has another ebook offer up where you can get a $6 credit when buying $25 worth of Kindle ebooks (offer varies by account).

Is it odd that the PW5 has gone on sale so often?
Nathan says
They’ve always put the Paperwhites on sale often so that’s not unusual, but I’ve always thought it was weird how they only put the Oasis on sale a couple times a year, especially since it’s overpriced to begin with. There’s no way it’s worth that much more than the Paperwhite, especially now that the Paperwhite has upgrades it doesn’t.
Jay Vansickle says
Agreed… I’m surprised that the Oasis hasn’t gone on sale more… Especially since it should be phasing out, or being replaced, soon.

Yeah, after I missed the last sale I went ahead and bought it. Now 2 weeks later it’s on sale again. Bummer.
Nathan says
If you really wanted to you could return that one since it’s within the 30-day window and repurchase another one while it’s on sale. I’ve heard of customer support suggesting that before since Amazon won’t price match anything after it’s gone on sale. It just depends on how much of a hassle you want to deal with.
Mary says
Part of me wants to do that, but I got a decent deal. 10% off, a $15 ebook credit, and the adult Kindle Unlimited. Yeah, I did buy a cheap cover, but it could have been worse.

Contact customer support and politely ask for the difference. I’ve done this a couple times.
Twice they’ve given the difference in either a Amazon gift card applied to my account or a “courtesy credit” that is automatically applied to my next order on Amazon.
Jo says
I did this both times with the Amazon Live Chat.

Hi Mary,
If you bought the original kindle for $139.99 itt is worth returning that and buying this kids edition. You get a total of $269.00 worth of stuff with the kids kindle which is easily changed to standard version. It’s just changing Home Screen setup.
With kids for the &11499 you get
No ads
Free Amazon cover
2 yr warranty instead of 1
1 year of a kindle kids subscription you can turn off auto-renew and never use it if you don’t have kids.
Normally kids version cost 159.00 so to get this extra stuff at 114.99 is great! I did this when the kids version was on sale a couple of weeks ago. There are YouTube videos how to turn off kids home screen to make the kindle normal it’s the same hardware.
I would do the trade in. but not if you want ti just get a normal kindle a bit cheaper than what you paid. But that’s my opinion.
Mary says
It might be complicated since I’ve used the $15 book credit! I don’t have the packaging either.
If I’d caught the sale the other week I’d have grabbed it. But, I won’t use the Kindle kids unlimited, so that’s not a selling point. And I’m still using my 1st/2nd generation paperwhite (I think 2016) so I don’t care about the warranty. I did have a Voyage which I loved, but after few years the charging port became too loose to grip the plug. So I went back to the paperwhite.
The main thing I dislike about the new 6.8 is the scrolling library. I think someone mentioned it before. When I set this up, the library swiped, my preference. Then it must have coughed out the update.
What I REALLY wish is for library books in pdf format to be able to be checked out onto my kindle. Even if I wanted to sideload, I don’t own a computer /laptop. At my age and stage in life (retired) I don’t need one. I primarily use my phone, with a tablet for a few zoom classes.

Might want to look into using magnetic charge cables with your kindle to help minimize wear and tear on the charge port.

I tried that after reading your post, I was told no can do. My call was dropped repeatedly. I’d made one just before this one about an ordered item marked “take action on your desktop”. Some of us do not own computers, Amazon! I signed in via Chrome, but still couldn’t deal with the problem, so went to chat. The call was dropped 4x. The call about perhaps getting a refund was dropped 3x.
Mary says
So, I tried for an Amazon credit for my kindle via chat, and they said no. Then the next day I called and was told no – all the while being transferred 4x – including to Amazon Canada (I’m in the US). Service with Amazon has REALLY gone downhill.
