Did Amazon Discontinue the Kindle Scribe Basic Pen?

August 23, 2024 by Nathan Groezinger 2 Comments

Kindle Scribe Basic Pen

This is kind of weird. I tried to find the basic pen for the Kindle Scribe on Amazon’s website this morning, and it’s like it doesn’t exist anymore.

It doesn’t turn up in search results and if you follow an old link for the basic stylus is just goes to the listing for the Premium Pen.

They used to have the option to choose the basic pen or the premium pen on that page, but now there’s no way to choose the basic pen at all. There isn’t the option to buy it used like with the premium pen. It doesn’t say it’s out of stock or anything like that. It’s just gone.

Maybe it’s yet another glitch with the system, or maybe they’ve discontinued it.

You still have the option to get the basic pen when buying the 16GB Kindle Scribe, but it’s no longer available to purchase separately for some reason.

At $29.99, it was one of the least expensive Wacom styluses on the market so it’s unfortunate to see it go, but maybe it’ll come back. Most replacement Wacom styli for eNotes are ridiculously overpriced, like Onyx’s $89 stylus and Remarkable’s $129 stylus (even their basic one is $79).

I still think there’s an outside chance Amazon will release a Kindle Scribe 2 later this year, and maybe this is an early sign that’s going to happen. They’d probably release a new redesigned pen with a new model, or maybe they’ll drop the basic pen option altogether. Either way it’s odd to suddenly stop selling an accessory for a product that still exists, but the premium pen is still available to purchase so I guess it’s not a big deal, even though it costs twice as much as the basic pen.

If this is an article about Amazon discontinuing the Basic pen for the Scribe, why is it accompanied by a picture of the Premium pen?

Because I couldn’t find a picture of the basic pen since the listing no longer exists. The 64GB Kindle Scribe has been sold out for a while now too. I think a new Scribe is incoming, along with a new Kindle Paperwhite.
