New 13.3″ Boox Note Max Now Available to Purchase on Amazon

January 1, 2025 by Nathan Leave a Comment

Onyx Boox Note Max

Last month Onyx announced the upcoming release of a new 13.3″ model called the Boox Note Max. It still hasn’t officially been released yet, but it’s getting closer. The Note Max is now available to order from Onyx’s Amazon store for $649, and it’s expected to start shipping later this month.

It always surprises me how many people are interested in Onyx’s 13.3″ models, especially considering how expensive they are, but the new Note Max is by far the least expensive 13.3″ eNote that Onyx has released. Their previous generation model, the Tab X, sold for $879, and it’s currently “on sale” for $799, but there are a lot of differences with the new model to justify the price difference.

First off, the Note Max doesn’t have a frontlight like the Tab X, and it uses an E Ink Carta 1300 screen instead of an E Ink Mobius screen. The latter is plastic based so it’s lighter and more durable, but the Carta screen on the new model has better contrast and higher resolution. In fact, this is the first 13.3″ eNote with a 300 ppi screen (the previous models only had 207 ppi).

Onyx also removed the microSD card slot on the new model, but it does come with 128GB of internal storage space, and the USB-C port supports OTG so you can connect external drives that way if needed.

The Note Max features a new design as well. The Tab X has a symmetrical design with the larger bezel on the bottom, whereas the Note Max has a larger handle on one side of the screen like most eNotes (it’s a Carta thing). The design is similar to the Boox Go 10.3 that Onyx released last June.

The software on the Note Max is based on Android 13, and it comes with Google Play to install Android apps. It also supports BSR for faster and smoother refreshing, which is a big plus on Boox devices.

For some reason it’s still not available directly from Onyx’s website yet, but it must be getting close to release if they’re accepting orders on Amazon. In some parts of the world the Note Max has already started shipping, and a few videos have started to turn up on YouTube.
