For some reason I was over at Best Buy’s website browsing through tablets when I came across a new listing for the ultra-cheap DigiLand DL 7 tablet.
It’s a 7-inch Android tablet with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor that runs Android 4.4 KitKat and comes with front and rear cameras, 4GB of storage space, 512MB DDR3 RAM, and a memory card slot.
All that for $49 bones.
Granted when you dig a little deeper, the specs aren’t very good, but it’s amazing just how cheap Android tablets have become over the past couple years. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Amazon has been selling crummy imported tablets for $50 for months now, even some with HDMI ports, like the ProntoTec 7.
But the DigiLand DL 7 is the first $50 tablet I’ve seen that runs Android 4.4 KitKat, Google’s latest operating system for tablets.
A few years ago a tablet with similar specs would’ve sold for upwards of $150-$200. The good news is the price is a significant decrease; the bad news is the hardware is relative to a tablet from a few years ago…

Battery life is usually one of the weakest links with budget tablets. There’s no mention of battery life for the DigiLand DL 7 at Best Buy, but it’s probably in the 3-4 hour range.
If you happen to pick up one of these tablets let us know what you think in the comments section below.

I always look at the RAM; and there is very little on this tablet.
This is in their own words not mine: “512MB DDR3 RAM ensures reliable operation.”
But at $49 and free shipping it might be a nice one to throw in the backpack to check email 😉

First thing I usually look at is the screen resolution. 800 x 480 is about as low as it gets for a 7-inch tablet… But yeah, $49 is getting to the point where it doesn’t really matter as long as it works.

I brought this tablet for gaming on Pokemon go but it’s stuck on the loading screen can anybody help me resolved this issue

People keep pointing at the tablet and saying it has very lil ram or the screen resolution is as low as it gets. AT $49.00 WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!! I’m o.k. with the one I purchased!!!!

I bought a Digiland 7 inch tablet as my backup tablet, but it has now turned into my main tablet as its battery life is far superior to my toshiba tablet.

I got it just to have a clash of clans multi account on android. The screen isn’t great, it’s had to see from different angles. The touch screen isn’t great either. I didn’t expect much from it though, I figureef I got what I paid for. I am happy with it (doesn’t crash or freeze up) for what I bought it for.

Recently purchased this at Best Buy and I am satisfied with it’s usefulness. Was well aware of it’s limitations but bought it anyway. So far I am ok with the performance. Price was right.

Bought its successor (the DL701D) at Best Buy today. Has a quad core processor and an upgraded display relative to this one (1024×600). Also has 8 GB built in. Actually impressed with what it can do for $50. Not going to satisfy power users, but this new version might actually be an adequate solution for the “need a cheap tablet for my kid” crowd.
Nathan says
Thanks for letting us know about the updated model. Looks like an even better deal now. I’ll do post about it.

I just bought the DL701D also. I wanted one to take with me when I travel…just for casual use. It works fine, except the user’s manual is not very helpful. This is my first tablet and my first experience with Android. During my first use, I found the setting that controlled the “maturity” level of game purchases. I set it for “Everyone” and then found a “Hobbit” game that wouldn’t download because of that setting. I CAN’T FIND THE SETTING CONTROL TO RESET IT !!! Can someone help me please ?

I almost purchased this newer quad core tablet at Best Buy just now for my 6 year old. The only reason I did not is because they did not sell a case to fit it that had a back camera hole. Anyone know where to get a case to fit this?

This tablet is an outstanding value tablet for a child or someone just starting out, or not needing much. I played videos from you tube, and it was great. The camera is front and rear facing but better not be moving, it will be shaky. Other than that I think I may have to buy a few more, just knowing a screen will get cracked.

Anyone find a way to add extra bettery life using one of those portwble phone charger/extra battery life packs? If so, which one??

I purchased one for my 8 yr old she set a password lock and forgot what she put any ideas how to get it off the lock screen..Tried reset but that doesn’t change it at all

For a tech savvy child o.k. if you are an adult beginner I suggest saving up an extra 200$and get a starter laptop. This device is just what I paid for 40$ worth of…the android operating system combined with Google mind control will drive you crazy.Almost every log on will be some ploy to obtain your identity, contacts, location, etc.N
eed I say more ?

I got the updated quad-core version from Best Buy on a lark. Boy was I surprised! It’s fast, all the programs access super easy, and I did most of the setup intuitively. I have bought two others for the kids, and see it as a worthy gift. This is their entry level product in the U.S. where they are now trying to establish a name as quality manufacturers. Snap them up! The price won’t last long with this performance! They have been around for 10 years in Hong Kong.

I bought a 701Q about a year ago and it has worked fine for me. The battery life is short (3-4) hours. The screen resolution is low; I need to be looking at it straight on when I read a book. I wasn’t expecting anything more from a $50 tablet. My only complaint would be that Digiland seems to have no intention of upgrading the Android system. My Nexus just upgraded to 6 (Marshmallow) but the Digiland has never moved from 4.4.2. Some of my apps cannot be upgraded because of this.

We bought this for my 8 year old to play games. It worked fine but the battery went out and we charged it over night and tried turning it on the next morning and it won’t turn on. I have tried the reset button multiple times, nothing happens. Any suggestions?
Nathan says
Try plugging it in and holding the power button for several seconds. If that does nothing hold the power button plus volume down button (or maybe the up button) to trigger a restore.
David says
Just got one, worked well for a day then got into never finishing init, and any reset flow I try can get it work well (get stacked at init, recovery not working as well) not sure it was as smart as i thought.
