It’s time for another weekly roundup of 10 free highly-rated Kindle ebooks. I’ve sifted through the gazillion free romance titles to find a few non-romance titles for a change (about half of all free Kindle books have a guy on the cover with his shirt off or a couple making out).
Amazon is also continuing to run a sale on Kindles this week for Mother’s Day, taking $20 off the price of Kindles and $50 off the Fire HD 10. They also added the entry-level Fire tablet to the sale lineup today. It’s marked down to $39 for the 8GB model and $59 for 16GB.
Please note that the free Kindle ebooks listed below are free as of May 1st, 2016. Most of these titles are free for a limited time only and will expire in a few days before going back to the regular list price.
A good place to find more free Kindle books is on the free bestsellers list at Amazon.
You don’t need to own a Kindle ebook reader or a Fire tablet to read these free ebooks; you can use a free Kindle reading app for iPad, iPhone, Blackberry, and Android devices, or use a computer or web browser.

Beyond Repair by Susie Tate
Literature & Fiction, 4.5 stars, 23 reviews
Everybody loves Katie; with her bubbly personality, her beauty, her never-ending supply of care and support for her patients and friends, and her huge sense of fun, there’s very little to dislike. Yes, she’s a bit scatty, she tends not to sweat the small stuff (like an engine light on her dashboard – that is until her Mini won’t actually start any more), and she can talk the hind legs off a donkey, but none of that stops most people from thinking she’s pretty damn adorable. Well, most people, other than Sam, that is…
The Journey in Between: Thru-Hiking Solo on the Camino to Santiago by Keith Foskett
Adventure, 4.7 stars, 44 reviews
El Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way, is the fabled path that weaves through French and Spanish countryside for 1,000 miles to its hallowed destination at Santiago de Compostella. Thousands attempt to walk its entirety each year: some succeed, many fail. Keith Foskett thru-hiked the Camino to indulge his love for the outdoors and hiking but also, unintentionally, filled a void in his life which took him in a completely different direction. Along the way he made friends with fellow pilgrims from all over the world, all travelling for their own different reasons. He was assailed by new experiences and unexpected discoveries – from the pain of blisters and extremes of temperature to encountering kleptomaniacs, fake faith healers and being threatened with arrest in Spain for ‘not sleeping’.

Never by J. Grace Pennington
Mystery, Thriller & Suspense, 4.7 stars, 27 reviews
Travis Hamilton never expected to be a killer. One day he was studying to become a schoolteacher in the little western town of Spencervale, and the next he was sentenced to ten years hard labor in the Dead Mines outside town — from which few return alive. Ross Hamilton is no detective. But when his brother is convicted of murder, he has no choice but to abandon his ranch and do all in his power to find out just what happened the night of the killing, and who is really responsible. Neither brother is prepared to be stretched and tested to his limits and beyond by an adventure that is much bigger than either of them ever imagined. But in the next few days, they will be. The only way to survive is to never compromise.

I wonder what could be wrong with a refurbished Voyage.
Nathan says
There’s nothing wrong them. I buy refurbished gear all the time, like the new camera I got for half price to do video reviews. They are usually open box units or customer returns, and they come with the same warranty as a new Kindle.
Nathan says
Also Best Buy has new ones on sale for $179. I checked yesterday when putting together this list and it was at regular price but now they’ve got it discounted like the other Kindles again.
James says
I got a Fire HDX 8.9 Refurb and it is quite obvious why it was half the price. I don’t mind imperfections I found in it (like clearly visible sensor dashes on the screen) since I don’t read on that device (because it is impossible due to blue hue of the screen which no filter can altogether eradicate). So I’m under the impression that there has to be something up with a refurb Voyage too.
