Amazon has finally put some of their previous generation Kindles on sale, but so far the sale is limited to “like-new” Kindles, which is Amazon’s new way of saying refurbished (I don’t think they ever did any actual “refurbishing” so technically that’s a more accurate description anyway).
Considering the prices of the new 2026 Kindles, these sales are a good way to save some money on a Kindle that is nearly identical functionally, but the prices certainly aren’t as low as they used to be before the price increase.
Some of these deals aren’t bad though. I would definitely choose the previous gen Kindle Paperwhite at $152.99 over the new plastic 2026 6″ Kindle for $149.99.
The previous gen Kindle Scribe is a good deal too if you want a larger Kindle. The 16GB version is only $284.99 (but I’d recommend the 32GB version for $299). That’s a fraction of the price of the new Kindle Scribe at $499.
The 1st gen Kindle Colorsoft is on sale as well, both versions. At $220, the 16GB model is $70 less expensive than the new version, and the Signature Edition is $76 cheaper.
Here’s the full list of Like-New Kindles on sale at Amazon:
Kindle Paperwhite 16GB – $152.99
Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition – $190.99
Kindle Colorsoft 16GB – $220.99
Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition – $243.99
Kindle Colorsoft Scribe 2 – $284.99
I also noticed some of Amazon’s “used” cases for previous gen Kindles are pretty cheap. The premium leather case for the Paperwhite/Colorsoft can be had for $23.38 in like new condition, and the green plant-based leather case is only $10.59 in like new condition.
