PocketBook Era Color Now Available to Order

April 30, 2024 by Nathan Groezinger 1 Comment

PocketBook Era Color

Back in March, PocketBook announced the upcoming release of the PocketBook Era Color with a 7-inch color E Ink screen, and it’s now available to order from PocketBook’s Amazon store.

The PocketBook Era Color is priced at $259 with free shipping, and the estimated delivery date is still a couple weeks out, but there’s a third-party seller with some in stock.

The PocketBook Era Color has the same 7-inch Kaleido 3 screen as the new Kobo Libra Colour that was just released, and it has a similar design with page buttons on one side of the screen, but the PocketBook has more of a premium design with a flush front screen and metal sides instead of the cheap plastic that Kobo uses.

The Era Color is priced $40 higher than the Kobo, though, so the better build quality comes at a higher price. It does add a built-in speaker and support for text-to-speech, and there are a lot of overlapping features between the two devices other than the screen.

The PocketBook Era Color is waterproof, it supports Bluetooth and WiFi, it has an auto-rotate sensor, there’s a frontlight with adjustable color temperature, it has a USB-C port, a quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and it has a 2500 mAh battery.

PocketBooks support a wide range of formats, including the main ones like EPUB and PDF, plus CBR and CBZ for comics. They also support Adobe DRM and can download library ebooks directly to the device.

Some PocketBooks run Android but this one does not so it can’t install Android apps, but it is open to installing other reading apps like KOReader.

Now that the PocketBook Era Color has been released, there are now three different ereaders available on Amazon with the same 7-inch color E Ink screen, the Bigme B751C being the third option—it runs Android and can install apps, but it’s quite a bit more expensive at $299. It’s good to see more options coming on the market either way.

Sadly, although it being Linux, its OS is slow and particularly slow the zoom function.
I don’t know wether Eo will be better with Android and be able to run a good app with better zooming.
