New 13.3″ InkPoster Affresco Now Available for Only $499

InkPoster Affresco

Another E Ink poster has turned up for sale on Amazon though PocketBook’s official store. This model is called the InkPoster Affresco. It has a 13.3″ color E Ink Spectra 6 display, and it only costs $499!

That might sound like a lot for a poster, but it’s a bargain compared to the other InkPosters that PocketBook started selling a couple months ago. There’s a 31.5″ model for $1699, and if that isn’t expensive enough for your there’s a 28.5″ InkPoster with an upgraded screen for $2399.

I’m not sure why one of the oldest ereader companies in the business is now selling super expensive E Ink posters, but maybe it’s an untapped market. Or maybe people are going to start posting pages of books on walls and wall reading will turn into the next big thing.

They claim that InkPosters can operate for up to 1 year on a single charge with the built-in 10,000 mAh battery, and there’s a USB-C port for charging. The poster has an aluminium frame and a matte finish to reduce glare. The weight is listed at 4.4 pounds (2.1 kg).

Their marketing spiel likes to repeatedly point out that InkPosters don’t emit blue light. All those blue light emitting posters are a real hazard to everyone’s eye health, you know. People’s eyes are falling out at an alarming rate.

This InkPoster has a 13.3″ E Ink display, but it’s a different type of screen than what ereaders use. It features a Spectra 6 display with a resolution of 1200 x 1600. That works out to 150 ppi (or dpi, depending on your preference). Spectra screens have better color quality than screens used for ereaders, but the refresh rate is much slower.

InkPosters work with an app to change the image that appears on the screen via Bluetooth/WiFi. It is kind of a cool idea, but the price of E Ink screens is always going to be the biggest barrier when it comes to this kind of thing.
