Every few years I write a rant about how Kobo makes it needlessly difficult to buy Kobo ereaders in the US. Things will get better for a while, but time and again Kobo’s retail partnerships fall through, and would-be customers are left with few options. Kobo’s distribution problems actually make some level of sense when […]

New Kobo eReaders Listed on FCC, But Don’t Get Your Hopes Up
I’ve been keeping an eye on this Netronix page for new FCC listings for Kobo devices, and a couple of new entries turned up this week. Unfortunately, it looks like both listings aren’t really new models at all. They have the same model numbers as previous Kobos, the Kobo Clara BW and Kobo Clara Colour. […]
Kobo Released Revised Kobo Clara BW Made By Different OEM
At some point earlier this year Kobo started selling a new revised version of the Kobo Clara BW and they didn’t bother to announce it or even update their website with the new details. Someone on reddit noticed a new listing for a second Kobo Clara BW with a different model number on the iFixit […]
Kobo Software Update Released, But Only For 2 Models
Some people have started receiving a notice about their Kobo ereader getting a new software update, but it appears to be a very minor update, and so far it’s only available for two models. The software update version is 4.42.23296, and it’s only for the Kobo Clara Colour and the Clara BW. The update will […]
NetGalley Adds Send to Kobo Button to Deliver Books to Kobos
Earlier this year NetGalley switched their ebooks over to a new type of DRM (LCP) that isn’t compatible with Kobo ereaders, and some folks that use NetGalley were disappointed they could no longer use Kobo ereaders to read NetGalley ebooks. Fortunately the two companies worked together to provide a solution, and that solution is now […]
Pocket is Closing Down, Kobo eReaders to Lose Pocket Support
Today Mozilla announced that they plan to shut down Pocket on July 8th, 2025. There’s already a notice up on the Pocket website about the closure, and the Pocket app and extensions will no longer be available to download from app stores after today, May 22nd. If you already have the Pocket app installed, you’ll […]
Kobo Says the Clara Colour Will Return to the US This Summer
Last week I posted about how something appears to be fishy with the distribution of Kobo ereaders in the US because they’re always out of stock, and they’re often priced above MSRP on Amazon when they are in stock, while the same exact models are readily available to order in other countries without any issues. […]
Is Kobo Planning to Stop Selling eReaders in the US?
Either Kobo is in the process of downsizing (or possibly phasing out) their US distribution or they’re incompetent. I’m not sure which, but the fact of the matter is Kobo’s ereaders are constantly out of stock in the US or priced above the MSRP, while they’re readily available in other parts of the world. You […]
